Senior/Principal Scientist, Computational Neuroscience, Computational Sciences Center of Excellence

Roche’s Research and Early Development organizations (gRED and pRED) leverage AI, data, and computational sciences to accelerate drug discovery. The Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CoE) unifies these efforts, harnessing data and AI to deliver transformative medicines. We seek a creative scientist to develop and execute Roche’s Foundational Data and Models strategy in Computational Neuroscience, focusing on neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, and multiple sclerosis within the Computational Biology & Medicine department.

Responsibilities

• Work within and extend Roche’s data ecosystems to accelerate the Neuroscience portfolio.
• Develop strategies to mine large datasets and drive science using LLMs, advanced automation, and AI agents.
• Analyze and integrate human genetic, single-cell atlases, perturbation, and other data types to derive novel insights into disease pathobiology.
• Nominate new entries to the Neuroscience Target Assessment Portfolio and identify biomarkers for therapeutic programs.
• Serve as computational lead on pipeline programs, supporting target validation, mechanism of action, safety, and biomarker studies.

Requirements

PhD or equivalent with in-depth training in a relevant field, and deep understanding of biological pathways in neurodegeneration/neuroimmunology and computational methods to study them. Senior Scientist roles require demonstrated expertise, while Principal Scientist roles require successful postdoctoral research or ≥3 years of equivalent experience after PhD.

• Deep experience in analyses such as:
  • Perturb-seq and CRISPR screening
  • Patient tissue or CSF/PBMC atlases
  • Human genetics for drug target prioritization
  • AI approaches and AI agents for scientific insights
• Track record of impactful scientific achievement (e.g., co-first/lead or contributing author publications).
• Excellent communication skills and success in complex, multidisciplinary environments.

Schedule

Onsite presence at our South San Francisco campus is expected for at least 3 days a week. Relocation benefits are available.

Pay

The expected salary range for this position in South San Francisco, California is:

• $130,800 – $242,800 (Senior Scientist)
• $150,700 – $279,900 (Principal Scientist)

Actual pay will be determined by experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
