About the role
Experienced Millimeter-Wave (mmWave) IC Designer specializing in engineering high-frequency (30 GHz+) transceivers and components for 5G/6G communications, aerospace radar, and automotive sensors. You will drive the full product lifecycle, tackling challenges like parasitic extraction, thermal management, and high-frequency electromagnetic modeling. The role involves a high level of customer engagement at a fast pace on state-of-the-art design.
Responsibilities
- Design custom blocks such as Power Amplifiers (PAs), Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), mixers, and Voltage-Controlled Oscillators (VCOs).
- Design Tx and Rx signal chains for noise figure, linearity, dynamic range, and power efficiency.
- Design RF PLLs, including Sigma-Delta and FRAC-N PLLs, with expertise in phase noise, spurious signals, and settling time.
- Work with PLL building blocks such as PFD, charge pumps, dividers, and multipliers.
- Develop RF transceiver architectures, direct-conversion topologies, and phased-array systems.
- Perform signal chain analysis and evaluate system figures of merit such as ACPR, EVM, and BER.
- Leverage advanced nodes using RF SOI processes and understand the required trade-offs.
- Utilize standard EDA software environments for system simulation, schematic & simulation, electromagnetic (EM) simulation, layout, and verification.
- Take designs from conception through tape-out to final lab validation.
- Conduct extensive lab characterization using high-frequency equipment like spectrum analyzers, VNAs, and probe stations.
Requirements
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 10+ years of industrial experience in IC design, from conception through tape-out to final lab validation.
- Deep expertise in designing mmWave transceivers and components for 5G/6G, aerospace radar, or automotive sensors.
- Hands-on experience with advanced RF SOI process technologies.
Skills
- Mastery of standard EDA software environments, including:
- System Simulation: VSS
- Schematic & Simulation: Cadence Virtuoso and VRF flows
- Electromagnetic (EM) Simulation: EMX and Clarity
- Layout & Verification: Layout MXL, QRC, and Pegasus
- Proficiency in RF transceiver architectures, direct-conversion topologies, and phased-array systems.
- Extensive lab characterization experience with high-frequency equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, VNAs, probe stations).
