As a key contributor at Allegiant, you play a pivotal role in delivering highly reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems. You will drive projects end-to-end, collaborating with Product Managers on product definitions, architecting and implementing technical solutions with talented teams, and ensuring continued success post-deployment. This position involves facilitating platform convergence and participating in phased implementations using standard development tools and methodologies. You will lead and participate in design reviews, architecture discussions, and other technical leadership activities while balancing technical acumen with strong business judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a software project from requirements analysis through deployment, owning all technical deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with QA, PMO, and IT Operations teams to provide technical support and guidance for successful project delivery.
  • Apply expert knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices to resolve application bottlenecks and scalability issues.
  • Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions.
  • Contribute to the architecture team by evaluating frameworks, recommending integrations, modeling processes, and designing scalable n-tier systems.
  • Provide solution architecture for business problems while adhering to technical guidelines.
  • Refactor current application implementations to align with the technology roadmap and drive innovation in processes, tools, and technologies.
  • Design and implement product enhancements based on business priorities.
  • Exert technical influence across teams to increase productivity and effectiveness through deep knowledge sharing.
  • Design and develop domain data models and database schemas to support business requirements.
  • Collaborate with business analysts to gather and analyze requirements, developing high-level system narratives, storyboards, and UI prototypes.
  • Stay current with the latest developments in front-end and middleware frameworks.
  • Conduct design and code reviews, enforcing software development standards and best practices.
  • Develop prototypes or demos for strategic business initiatives.
  • Mentor team members on advanced technical issues and assist managers in career development.
  • Develop complex database interactions and optimizations using ORM-driven SQL and native ad-hoc queries.
  • Ensure direct reports apply customer service standards in daily responsibilities and model Allegiant’s customer service standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, Management Information Systems (MIS), or a related field; Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • Minimum twelve (12) years of development experience as a seasoned middleware engineer; airline and/or hospitality experience preferred.
  • Minimum nine (9) years of software development, architecture, and building multi-tiered, high-volume, fault-tolerant, and globally distributed systems in a Linux environment; e-commerce experience is a plus.
  • Experience with JBoss/Wildfly, Spring Boot 2.0, Tomcat, Linux, HTTP, SOAP/REST Web Services/Microservices, XML, and JSON.
  • Experience with fault-tolerant message queuing/brokering systems (e.g., AMQ, RabbitMQ, zeromq, Kafka).
  • Solid engineering experience with EJBs, the web layer, Spring Framework, and Maven.
  • Experience with Unit Testing Frameworks and Tools such as JUnit, TestNG, Mockito, Jasmine, and Mocha.
  • Experience with CI/CD build servers (Jenkins, Bamboo, TravisCI, TeamCity, etc.).
  • Experience with environment deployment/orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, etc.) is highly desired.
  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms (OpenStack, Azure, Google Cloud) is highly desired.
  • Experience/knowledge with service discovery solutions like Consul/Eureka/Zookeeper.
  • Familiarity with Inversion of Control paradigm; experience with Java-based IoC frameworks is a plus.
  • Experience with ORM frameworks for Java, Node, PHP, or Mongo (e.g., Hibernate, ORM2, Sequelize, Doctrine, Mongoose).
  • Experience with monitoring tools (SumoLogic, Splunk, Logstash, ELK, DataDog, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., DB2, MySQL, Mongo, Cassandra); experience with cloud-hosted variants (Cloudant, Dynamo, RDS) is highly desired.
  • Significant experience implementing Java best practices, especially around scalability, availability, and performance.
  • Strong experience in designing and developing public-facing and private REST APIs.
  • Experience working in DevOps-focused teams with an emphasis on automation and quality.
  • Highly developed design skills in algorithms, data structures, OOD, applied enterprise design patterns, and database design; domain-driven design and data modeling required.
  • Track record of building and maintaining excellent working relationships with peers across QA, Development, PM, and UX teams.
  • Experience with software source control systems, preferably Git.
  • Experience making trade-off decisions regarding software system architecture and design.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux-based OS, including basic administrative tasks, is a plus.
  • Track record of delivering excellent customer experiences.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Ability to stay current with new technologies and methods for building high-quality software.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills; ability to simplify complex problems.
  • Independent thinker with creative, resourceful, and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of machine-learning algorithms and statistics: regression, classification, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks.
  • Ability to operate at the bleeding edge of data science disciplines.
  • Ability to understand and drive the company’s vision.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with business and technical teams.
  • Ability to lead teams of technologically and scientifically oriented employees.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven presentation skills for all audience levels, including technologists, management, and executives.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US as defined by the Immigration Act of 1986 and pass a criminal background check.

Skills

  • Java (8, 9), server-side JavaScript (Node.js, Meteor), PHP 7.x, C#, C++, Python, HTML5, CSS3, AJAX, JavaScript, jQuery, and latest frameworks (AngularJS, ReactJS/Redux, Backbone).
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to map business requirements to technical solutions.

$170,700 - $200,500 a year

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, printer, and phone.
  • May be required to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 20 lbs.
  • May be required to work various shifts/days in a 24-hour situation; regular attendance is required.
  • Exposure to moderate noise (e.g., business office with computers, phones, printers, and foot traffic), temperature, and light fluctuations.
  • Ability to work in confined areas and sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
  • Some travel may be required.
