Senior/Principal Engineer - Substation

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing complex engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.

What you’ll do

• Technical Expertise: Exhibits journey-level proficiency plus advanced knowledge that enables the engineer to serve as a leader within the assigned organization. Keeps abreast of new products, developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment. Understands and analyzes interrelationships between systems and component equipment. Interprets codes and regulations, and develops standards relevant to the area of assignment.
• Leadership & Guidance: Provides guidance and exercises judgment and discretion in directing other Engineers. Leads, facilitates, and coordinates work activities of others within the work group, team, department, corporate entity, or external to the company. Ensures all work activities comply with company policies, practices, standards, and external regulations. Promotes engineering professionalism and standards. Coordinates and conducts training sessions.
• Planning & Organization Ability: Participates in developing plans by establishing measurable goals, objectives, and requirements. Coordinates the development of input for projected project costs. Proficient in scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts) for budget and planning. Identifies and initiates corrective action when objectives are not met.
• Problem Solving & Initiative: Identifies, clarifies, resolves, and initiates solutions to routine and/or complex problems, sometimes involving conflicting or inadequate data. Demonstrates ability to break down problems into component steps. Consistently seeks and develops new opportunities and ideas.
• Communication: Coordinates the work of other engineers efficiently. Develops, reviews, or prepares reports on complex technical subjects clearly and concisely for management, professional societies, or regulatory bodies. Leads and facilitates meetings effectively.

Requirements

• Engineer Sr (Grade 8):
  • Typically requires 4+ years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program; or 2+ years with a Master's or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
  • Alternative qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology with a PE license, or a non-ABET Bachelor's degree plus a Master's/PhD from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor's program.
• Engineer Prin (Grade 9):
  • Typically requires 8+ years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program; or 6+ years with a Master's or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred unless waived by the organization's EVP.
  • Alternative qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology with a PE license, or a non-ABET Bachelor's degree plus a Master's/PhD from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor's program.

*ABET: Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Confirmation may be required to ensure PE licenses obtained in Puerto Rico align with NCEES standards. VP or above may waive degree requirements for non-ABET programs.

Pay

• Engineer Sr (Grade 8): $98,993 – $124,940
• Engineer Prin (Grade 9): $116,255 – $145,000

Compensation Grade: SP20-008. Compensation Range: $98,993.00 – $151,132.50.

Physical Demand Level: Sedentary Work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Involves sitting most of the time but may require walking or standing for brief periods.
