Roles & Responsibilities
- Establish and execute MITRE's long-term engineering vision for applied cyber resilience across complex mission systems and critical infrastructure.
- Define technical strategies that integrate cyber resilience engineering principles into system architecture, mission engineering, enterprise modernization, cloud adoption, software engineering, operational technology, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Lead the development of innovative engineering approaches that enable systems to anticipate, withstand, recover from, and adapt to sophisticated cyber attacks while maintaining mission effectiveness.
- Advance engineering methods that integrate cyber resilience with Zero Trust, secure-by-design principles, software assurance, supply chain risk management, digital engineering, AI-enabled systems, and resilient communications.
- Develop engineering frameworks that enable sponsors to measure, evaluate, and improve mission resilience, operational resilience, and cyber survivability across enterprise and tactical environments.
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering efforts to develop resilient architectures supporting defense, intelligence, civilian government, and critical infrastructure missions.
- Shape national approaches for engineering resilient systems by advising senior government leaders on resilience strategies, architecture modernization, mission assurance, technology investments, and engineering tradeoffs.
- Conceive, champion, and establish new engineering capabilities, approaches and tools that position MITRE several years ahead of sponsor demand while advancing the practice of cyber resilience engineering.
- Leverage modeling, simulation, digital engineering, mission analysis, and operational experimentation to evaluate resilience across complex systems and guide investment decisions.
- Expand MITRE's impact through technology transition, engineering frameworks, reference architectures, sponsor engagement, publications, and collaboration that advance national cyber resilience.
- Influence the direction of national cyber resilience through leadership in standards organizations, interagency initiatives, advisory committees, technical working groups, and strategic partnerships.
- Define and evolve MITRE’s long-term technical strategy for applied cyber resilience engineering across the Cyber Engineering Division, MITRE Labs, and MITRE’s FFRDC Program Divisions.
- Provide strategic technical leadership across sponsor programs, corporate research investments, independent research initiatives, and emerging technology areas.
- Foster technical collaboration across MITRE and establish enduring partnerships with government, industry, academia, federally funded laboratories, and standards organizations.
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
- 15+ years of experience in relevant domain.
- Proven technical depth and recognized external technical stature in a breadth of technologies within the Cyber Resiliency technical capability area, including commercial products, emerging tools, research capabilities, etc.
- Track record of technical innovation (research, innovation, etc.) with demonstrable impact.
- Demonstrated ability to define and lead collaborative efforts both within, and across, different organizations and stakeholders (local, sponsor, industry, etc.).
- Track record of successful project management (scoping, costing, execution, delivery, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across organizational units.
- Track record of successfully mentoring technical staff, including experience in leading high-performing teams.
- History of successful project initiation (definition, scoping, aligning to need, costing, etc.) and project management (execution, staffing, schedule management, delivery, quality review, etc.).
- Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearance.
- Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top-Secret.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
Preferred Qualifications
- Twenty or more years of progressively responsible experience conducting engineering, development, and application of resilience capabilities or technologies.
- Recognized technical authority in one or more areas including applied cyber resiliency, resiliency-enhancing technologies, NIST 800-160 V2 SP, resilience training and advanced table-top exercises.
- Experience in the intersection of cyber resiliency with one or more areas including enterprise security architecture, cyber threat, adversary emulation, cyber deception, defensive cyber operations, systems engineering, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated record of defining technical direction for programs, research initiatives, or technology transitions.
