About the role

The 787 Cabin Air Compressor (CAC) SIPT Senior Principal Engineer is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of reliability enhancement engineering activities for the in-service aircraft fleet. This Boeing Commercial role resides within the Environmental & Airframe Control Systems (EACS) division of Collins Aerospace Power & Controls. The CAC is a critical component of the Cabin Air Conditioning and Temperature Control System (CACTCS) and a key enabler of the more-electric aircraft architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team to execute CAC reliability-improvement projects, including design, development, and qualification tasks for hardware products.
  • Provide effective communication with the Boeing engineering customer by leading technical coordination meetings and workshops; ensure strong technical and schedule alignment between Collins and Boeing.
  • Support executive and customer presentations, including engagements with Boeing and airline operators.
  • Manage cost-reduction activities and mitigate producibility risks.
  • Learn and become proficient in the system architecture, performance, and operation of the Cabin Air Conditioning and Temperature Control System (CACTCS).
  • Drive efforts to identify, prioritize, and eliminate sources of CAC reliability issues through collaboration with Product Line leadership and feedback from in-service fleet operators.
  • Lead core project-management activities, including requirements management, risk management, change review board participation, and processing change requests.
  • Manage project budgets and monthly EVMS activities, including Estimate-at-Complete forecasts, variance reporting, and engineering resource planning through direct coordination with systems integration and component functional leads.
  • Drive execution of supplier transitions related to the CAC.
  • Support the development of prognostic health-management analytics for the CAC.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
  • We Prefer:
    • Five or more years of aerospace engineering experience.
    • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships with Boeing and fleet operators through successful execution of engineering activities.
    • Experience communicating effectively with executive leadership and external customers.
    • Project management and project engineering experience, including management of plans, schedules, budgets, and cross-functional teams.
    • Experience working within a highly matrixed organization, coordinating internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
    • Expertise in requirements development and management using DOORS.
    • Experience with design processes and functional requirements development.
    • Prior systems integration or systems engineering experience.
    • Experience supporting root-cause investigations.
    • Knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics principles.
    • Familiarity with turbomachinery and electric motors.

Pay

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD.
