Senior Principal Electrical Engineer - CCA Design (Onsite)

About the Role

The Strategic Defense Solution engineering organization is seeking a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer with analog and digital design experience. This lead position is responsible for clean-sheet and upgrade electronic solutions across multiple programs and disciplines. You will mentor engineers in circuit card, firmware, software, and systems design, providing guidance and support across programs. Products typically comply with MIL-STD-461 and DO-160. This role involves designing multiple electrical elements of a product, interacting with mechanical and software teams, developing PCB and system requirements, and supporting system test teams. Some domestic travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Research, develop, design, fabricate, modify, and evaluate electronic apparatus, components, or circuitry for use in electronic equipment and devices, ensuring work is completed on time and within quality and budget constraints.
• Prepare engineering drawings or specifications to construct, relocate, or install equipment, facilities, products, or systems.
• Prepare documentation including confidential descriptions or specifications of proprietary hardware or software, product development schedules, costs, and performance analyses.
• Perform engineering work and applied research, development, and design of new products to meet quality standards and business objectives.
• Produce products according to specifications using the most cost-effective and efficient means.
• Analyze and evaluate new or improved electronic components, including power systems, rotating machinery, illumination, circuit theory, computer design, instrumentation, radio communications, semiconductors, and video systems.
• Mentor newer engineers in design and development practices.

Requirements

• Experience with pre-CAD circuit design, including schematic capture, power, FPGA resource utilization, and knowledge of PWB stack-ups.
• U.S. citizenship (required for security clearance eligibility).
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with at least 7 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active DoD security clearance.
• Experience with mixed-signal design, including SoC/FPGAs, A/D converters, Digital Down Converters, D/A converters, Digital Waveform Generators, Mixed Signal CCAs, and Mixed Signal Modules/Subsystems.
• Experience with electronics design in 3U VPX and/or SOSA hardware, including backplane topologies and slot/module profiles.
• Experience with digital hardware design, including subsystem/module digital circuits, FPGA/ASICs, COTS interfaces, VME/PCI interfaces, and embedded processing.
• Experience with new architecture development and EMI/EMC standards for military applications using industry tools like Xpedition Enterprise or Cadence Allegro.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $132,400 – $251,600 USD. The range is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers factors such as role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills when extending an offer. Eligible applicants may also qualify for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs.
