Senior Principal DevOps Engineer
About the Role
The Senior Principal Engineer, DevOps plays an integral role in implementing and executing cloud practices for build management, product release, and operation processes. This highly strategic position focuses on our highest-risk and operationally impactful undertakings, driving revenue and customer experience through technical development and systems architecture.
Responsibilities
- Provide meaningful impacts to revenue and customer experience through technical development of staff and systems architecture.
- Offer thought leadership and collaboration across the broader organization through empirical analysis.
- Define problems autonomously and proactively own complex features and distributed designs.
- Establish and run processes for ongoing maintenance, including monitoring, support, and security patching of platforms.
- Automate, support, and ensure Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) in product development.
- Collaborate with and mentor junior engineers on software release best practices.
- Perform code reviews to ensure high quality and consistent coding practices.
- Work with operations and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless deployments, proper documentation, and application support.
- Ensure JetBlue IT and business standards, procedures, and audit/security/regulatory requirements are maintained.
- Collaborate with internal and external Engineering, Security, and Operations teams to enforce defined standards across all departments.
- Participate in the on-call team to resolve issues with customer-facing and support applications.
- Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement.
- Available for overnight travel (10%) and flexible hours, including emergency response on short notice.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline; OR demonstrated capability with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous related work experience.
- Six (6) years of experience working with infrastructure and/or development teams to build enterprise-scale application integration solutions.
- Six (6) years of experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery processes.
- Experience architecting and supporting highly available and highly scalable cloud infrastructure (Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or Amazon AWS).
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, and Python.
- Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker) and vulnerability/patch management.
- Proficient in cloud-based software development/management tools (Ansible, Salt Stack, Ruby, Jenkins Pipelines, GitHub, Ubuntu/CentOS/RHEL, Terraform, Artifactory, or similar).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like AppDynamics or Sumo Logic.
- Knowledge of Release Management Processes, including Canary Deployments and Blue/Green deployments.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located; authorization to work in the U.S. is required (this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship).
Preferred Qualifications
- Ten (10) years of experience leading/mentoring a team of software engineers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Content Delivery Network (CDN) Platforms and Content Management System (CMS) Technologies.
- Experience managing pipeline tools.
- Microsoft Certified DevOps Engineer or Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Expert.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Project Release Management.
- Effective time management and prioritization skills.
- Solid team and people management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and structured thinking skills.
- Able to work in a highly dynamic team environment.

Work Environment & Physical Effort

Pay
The base pay range for this position is between $134,600 and $210,100 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space-available travel on JetBlue, and more.
