About the role
Join us as a Senior Professional Services Principal Consultant and help us propel business forward. This role is based at one of our customer locations in Ft. Meade, Maryland. The position is contingent on you living in Maryland or one of its neighboring states. Progress Federal Solutions is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Progress Software, focusing on servicing the U.S. government and public sector. Our primary product is a highly differentiated data management platform that helps customers integrate all their data and metadata, power transactional and analytical applications, and curate data for machine learning and AI.
Responsibilities
- Partner with US Government customers as a trusted technical advisor to assess current-state data platforms and define modernization roadmaps.
- Design and implement secure, scalable architectures using Progress Software solutions across data management, integration, search, and analytics.
- Lead hands-on delivery from proof-of-concept through production, including installation, configuration, automation, and operational hardening.
- Build and optimize APIs and data pipelines to support mission applications, including event-driven and streaming patterns where applicable.
- Troubleshoot complex customer issues across application, data, and infrastructure layers; provide root-cause analysis and remediation plans.
- Collaborate with customer stakeholders, engineering, and product teams to translate mission needs into technical requirements and solution designs.
- Develop implementation artifacts (architecture diagrams, runbooks, deployment guides) and deliver knowledge transfer to customer teams.
- Mentor teammates and contribute reusable patterns, accelerators, and best practices to improve delivery quality and consistency.
- Support emerging AI-enabled use cases (e.g., semantic search, RAG) by helping customers operationalize prototypes with appropriate evaluation and governance.
Requirements
- US Citizen required due to access needed in this role.
- Active Top-Secret clearance with Full Scope or Counter-Intelligence Poly.
- Located in the United States to support a role at Ft. Meade, Maryland.
- Full-time on-site.
- 8+ years of hands-on database experience.
- Strong foundation in enterprise data management.
- Strong project-based experience with NoSQL, Graph (RDF triple-stores) or relational databases.
- Strong project-based experience developing enterprise-grade production software.
Skills
- Programming languages such as: JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, or Python.
- API-driven architectures, REST, microservices, and event-driven or streaming patterns.
- Containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes, including K8s platforms such as Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, Azure Kubernetes Service, Red Hat OpenShift, Rancher, or other enterprise-level platform.
- Cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure, including common services such as EC2, S3, EBS, IAM (Amazon) or Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Blob Storage, Managed Disks, Entra ID (Azure).
- JSON or XML data modeling.
- Experience across multiple programming tools, package managers, and common packages or libraries (e.g., npm, Node.js, pip, Anaconda, yum, apt).
- Advanced debugging tools (Chrome DevTools, VS Code/IntelliJ debuggers), and implementing automated testing with tools such as Postman, JUnit, PyTest, etc.
- Experience using modern source code management and CI/CD tools such as GitHub, GitLab, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
- Experience using Linux administration and shell scripting.
- Business Intelligence applications like Qlik Sense, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Analytics tools like SAS, R, Python libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, and other advanced statistical software.
- Applied experience building and deploying ML/DL solutions, including LLM-based applications, from prototype through production (model selection, fine-tuning, evaluation, and inference).
- Hands-on familiarity with modern LLM techniques, including vector embeddings, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
- Content or knowledge management systems, geospatial systems, or semantic search technology.
- Kafka, NiFi, MuleSoft, Boomi, or other data integration technologies.
- Agile development methodologies such as Scrum, SAFe, Kanban.
- High capacity for learning new technologies.
- Strong communication skills with ability to demonstrate and present to customers and stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor junior developers and consultants in the field.
Nice to have
- Web development experience with React, Vue.js, Angular, or other technologies.
Pay
Base Salary Range: $170,000 - $190,000. This position is also eligible to participate in our commission plan (up to $25,000 at goal). Final base compensation is determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, education, demonstrable experience, and allowance for future and continued salary growth.
