Key Responsibilities
- Management of all elements of archaeological fieldwork for NSIP projects under the direction of the strategic project lead.
- Ensuring all works adhere to approved documents (i.e., archaeological mitigation strategies and Written Schemes of Investigation).
- Production of supporting information for projects within time and budgets set by strategic project lead/line manager.
- Day-to-day management and oversight of subcontracted fieldwork consultants.
- Liaison, through maintenance of clear lines of communication, with advisors to LPAs, landowners, and clients, as well as other relevant stakeholders.
- Logistical management of fieldwork projects.
- Financial management of fieldwork projects in liaison with strategic project lead.
- Excellent knowledge and experience of on-site health and safety, and welfare requirements.
- Review of subcontractors RAMs and input into toolbox talks and safety briefings to contractors.
- Review and editing of subcontractor reports to ensure highest quality.
- Continual review of Archaeological Mitigation Strategies and associated Written Schemes of Investigation to ensure works are proportionate and in-line with appropriate policy and guidance.
- Provision of robust advice to clients on the archaeological implications of proposed developments, including input into design alternatives.
- Undertaking site visits, site monitoring works, and meetings with stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in relevant archaeology or related subject.
- At least 3 years’ experience in a professional archaeological fieldwork role, to at least a Project Officer level or equivalent.
- Experience of managing large scale excavations.
- Experience of producing desk-based assessments, WSIs, and inputting into EIA documentation (desirable – although training and support will be provided).
- Experience of quoting for work and inputting into fee proposals and tenders (desirable).
- Experience of liaising with clients, and negotiating with LPAs and stakeholders.
- Excellent report writing and editing skills.
- Experienced working as part of wider multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience of project finances – budget, sub-contractors quotes, and invoicing (desirable).
- Full Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA) or working towards Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities.
- Extensive and wide knowledge of British archaeology.
- Excellent overall knowledge of the planning system and processes across the UK.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office.
- Experience with AutoCAD and industry standard GIS software (e.g., QGIS or ArcGIS).
- Experience with Adobe suite software.
