About the role

The Senior Pricing Actuary ("SPA") plays a crucial role in supporting the rating and quoting processes for underwriting operations of IFG Companies. The SPA utilizes advanced actuarial methodologies, predictive analytics, market intelligence, and other factors to develop pricing models that support the business units' financial and competitive objectives while maintaining rate adequacy. The SPA will also assist in improving the pricing tools employed for the benefit of the assigned underwriting units. The ideal candidate will be technically strong, collaborative, and skilled at driving pricing improvements from concept through implementation. Most importantly, the SPA will deliver actionable insights that support profitable and sustained growth. While this is a hybrid role, remote flexibility is considered for an exceptional candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular rate indication studies to ensure profitability and support business unit financial goals.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate rating plans across underwriting portfolios.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting and IT to implement rating logic and pricing structure into the policy administration systems.
  • Design and implement innovative analyses and tools to address the pricing needs of underwriters, enabling data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the Actuarial team in pricing, modeling, and reserving to deliver strategic pricing insights to underwriters and senior leadership.
  • Monitor renewal rate changes to balance pricing and renewal retention targets.
  • Support reinsurance renewals by querying, reviewing, analyzing, and validating submission data.
  • Assist with pricing and premium aspects of the annual planning and budgeting processes.
  • Provide data and analysis needed for rate filings and various data calls.
  • Utilize tools such as Excel, SQL, and Python to analyze data, streamline workflows, and improve data quality and efficiency.
  • Create and maintain documentation that adheres to the high standards of conduct, practices, and qualifications of the actuarial profession by following the precepts of the Casualty Actuarial Society's Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Other duties, as requested.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college/university, with a major or coursework in insurance, risk management, economics, actuarial science, or related fields.
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in the Property & Casualty insurance industry, preferably with a U.S. commercial insurer.
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS).

Skills

  • Strong analytical and technical skills, including tool-building and data manipulation capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, together with solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, combined with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while resolving conflicts constructively.
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g., Excel, Word, SharePoint) and the willingness to learn proprietary IFG Companies systems.

Physical Demands

Position is hybrid and requires the ability and willingness to work in an IFG Companies office at least three (3) days per week if residing within a one-hour commuting distance. Physical demands are typical of a climate-controlled office environment with minimal physical exertion. Position requires prolonged sitting, extensive computer utilization, and interactions with others in person and via phone. The role may require travel to meet business needs.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $200,000. Additionally, the position may be eligible to earn incentive compensation.
