Senior Powertrain Engineer

HybridEngineering$98k/yrFull-time

About the Role

As a Senior Powertrain Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for calibrating vehicle parameters that directly impact acceleration characteristics, shift performance, fuel economy, and powertrain behavior of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles for the North American market. This role involves in-vehicle testing, customer research, and subjective performance evaluation to define and achieve targets for internal combustion and hybrid-electric propulsion systems across various vehicle segments.

Responsibilities

  • Define transmission performance character and performance targets for HMG brand and individual powertrain segments.
  • Develop transmission performance calibration for HEV, PHEV, and ICE powertrain applications for North America.
  • Lead proving ground and on-road vehicle test and calibration activities, including extreme weather, off-road, and towing validation.
  • Formulate countermeasure strategies and proposals to enhance vehicle drivability characteristics.
  • Support creation and maintenance of test procedures, calibration guides, and development guides.
  • Prepare calibration release documents (DCM, CSV) for the calibration manager before calibration fix milestones.
  • Lead validation of vehicle performance on-road in extreme cold, extreme heat, and towing conditions.
  • Ensure all drivability performance development activities adhere to internal quality standards.
  • Manage vehicle test events, including proving ground tests, cross-functional seasonal tests (hot/cold), chamber/dyno tests, and towing tests.
  • Support NA headquarters with all-electric vehicle drivability-related inquiries and issues.
  • Support quality initiatives, root cause analysis, issue resolution, and recurrence prevention of drivability issues for HMG brand vehicles.
  • Support benchmarking investigations and monitor technology trends for North American light-duty HEV, PHEV, and ICE powertrain applications, including competitor vehicle benchmark and controls analysis.
  • Collaborate with vehicle test teams and controls teams to enhance vehicle integration and controls software development, including logic review and improvement.
  • Develop vehicle performance modeling/simulation tools and automated test data analysis tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • 8+ years of experience in automotive testing, calibration, or controls development.
  • Expertise in powertrain controls calibration and logic development.
  • Strong understanding of ICE and HEV powertrain systems and vehicle dynamics.
  • Background in prototype vehicle on-road testing and performance measurement.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with measurement and calibration tools such as ETAS/Vector (INCA/MDA/Canoe).
  • Working knowledge of vehicle communication networks (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.).
  • Proficiency with simulation and controls development tools, such as MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in planning, executing, and closing projects.
  • Flexibility in handling multiple projects concurrently.

Benefits

  • Zero-dollar employee premiums on Medical, Dental, and Vision for you and your family.
  • 100% employer-paid disability and life insurance.
  • Generous paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
  • Retirement savings and planning benefits.
  • Access to health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts.
