Senior Power System Planning & Study Engineer

About the role

Arcadis is currently seeking a highly motivated Sr. Power System Planning & Study Engineer to join the Power Delivery team in the USA. The position involves coordinating/developing the Power System Planning & Study team and/or performing HVAC and/or HVDC planning/feasibility studies, interconnection studies, transient studies, and systems analysis investigations for clients in North America and globally. The role requires close collaboration with the Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Protection & Control Engineering, and Renewables teams, as well as other Arcadis divisions on related system studies and power sector master plans.

Responsibilities

  • Support, develop, and deliver complex power system study and planning projects for regulated, non-regulated, developer, or industrial clients.
  • Perform and review power systems analysis activities including load-flow, short-circuit, transient stability, electromagnetic transient, small-signal stability analysis, system impact study, and reliability analysis.
  • Conduct planning/system performance studies and transient studies to ensure compliance with prevailing standards, criteria, and good engineering practice.
  • Deliver accurate and thorough planning, studies, system design, report summaries, and other client system study deliverables that meet industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practice with excellent constructability.
  • Responsible for QA on client reports and deliverables.
  • Maintain close coordination and support other relevant Arcadis Business Units and Practices for cross-selling and cross-staffing opportunities.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and proposals.
  • Travel up to 25% to client sites and customer meetings, both within North America and potentially internationally.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of direct experience with power system study analysis and planning.
  • Proficiency with PSS®E, PSCAD, and PSS/E software packages, including load-flow, short-circuit, and transient stability analysis.
  • Experience with alternative planning software applications, including TARA, PSLF, DigSILENT, or DSA Tools, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity and experience with key North American Market Operators (e.g., MISO, PJM, NE-ISO, NY-ISO, CAISO, ERCOT, SSP, AESO, IESO) policies, guidelines, regulations, rules, model analysis, requirements, and criteria as applicable to grid interconnection, performance, and planning, especially related to bulk power systems.
  • Preferred: PE License.

The salary range for this position is $101,376 - $182,477. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, including experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
