Senior Power Plant Production Technician Instument, Controls, Electrical

The Bethlehem Energy Center is a state-of-the-art, combined-cycle power plant fueled primarily by natural gas. The plant features a 3 x 3 x 1 combined-cycle configuration: three GE 7FA combustion turbine-generators (CTGs) exhausting at 1,140°F to three Nooter/Eriksen heat-recovery steam generators (HRSGs), whose outputs feed one GE D11 steam turbine-generator.

About the role

The Senior Production Technician IC&E is responsible for detailed training of lower-grade Technicians, performing or directing safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant maintenance and calibrations of complex auxiliary equipment associated with boilers, turbines, generators, water treatment facilities, and power distribution. This role involves troubleshooting and repairing both electrical and mechanical equipment, executing safe LOTO (Work Clearance) procedures, and performing routine operational tests and inspections.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical and specialized work in the repair and maintenance of GE MKVI, DCS communication systems, PLC Logic, Rosemount instruments, CEMS (Continuous Emission Monitoring System), computers, annunciator systems, and boiler chemistry monitoring equipment.
• Conduct Thermography and NERC Battery inspections and maintenance.
• Actively participate in job briefs and safety discussions, maintaining a strong focus on hazard identification and elimination.
• Perform work in accordance with company policies, practices, standards, and rules, ensuring safe working conditions and proper use of tools and protective equipment.
• Maintain clean work areas and assigned housekeeping spaces.
• Collaborate with energy production, maintenance personnel, and others to resolve equipment problems safely and efficiently.
• Investigate abnormal operating conditions, equipment failures, design issues, and maintenance problems (PM/PDM).
• Review, update, and revise drawings, documentation, and procedures as needed.
• Assist with technical and safety training of others.
• Perform analytical work related to equipment testing, chemical analyses, engineering studies, and efficiency calculations.
• Work a fair share of holdover, scheduled, and call-out overtime, including weekend or night shifts for urgent jobs or startup support.
• Perform similar or less skilled tasks and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Associate’s degree from an accredited or technical college.
• 5+ years of Power Generation experience preferred.
• Knowledge and skill in installing, inspecting, repairing, adjusting, calibrating, and servicing instrumentation, controls, and electrical equipment.
• Strong math skills and understanding of fundamental chemistry principles.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from prints, sketches, and specifications.
• Analytical skills and ability to develop solutions to problems.
• Completion of a course in electricity (including magnetism and AC/DC theory), advanced chemistry, engineering principles of mechanics, control print reading, or maintenance and repair of electronic microprocessing.

Qualifications
