About the role

The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design and development of the power electronics of our nuclear-driven high-speed generator. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the design of high-voltage and high-speed generator drives, DC-DC converters for high-voltage batteries, and standalone and grid-tied inverters.

Responsibilities

  • Design power electronic systems to convert AC and DC power sources into stable grid compatible voltages and frequencies.
  • Take ownership and configure our systems active rectifiers, inverters, dc/dc converters.
  • Apply EMI/EMC strategies to the system design, selection of line filters, capacitors, grounding and isolation.
  • Utilize expertise in design and validation of gate drivers, power stages, magnetics, and controls.
  • Conduct modeling and detailed simulation of inverters.
  • Own the design and build a fully functioning inverter autonomously.
  • Perform circuit formal analysis, e.g., de-rating and worst-case circuit analysis.
  • Optimize loss, efficiency, and conduct thermal analysis of the inverter.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in power electronics.
  • 6+ years of design experience designing high voltage and high-power electronics.
  • Expert with high voltage power semiconductor selection (Si/SiC/GaN, IGBT, Diodes, MOSFETs), gate driver, and protection circuit design.
  • Strong experience in high voltage (HV) power electronics design (+800V) including AC/DC inverters, and DC/DC converters.
  • Strong understanding of different PWM switching techniques, DPWM, ZCS, ZVS.
  • Proficiency with at least one of the common power electronics tools such as PLECS, PSCAD, dSPICE, PSIM, or Simplorer.
  • Expertise in EMI/EMC filter design for stability, noise rejection, and surviving threat signals.
  • Solid understanding of capacitor and super-capacitor design and selection, such as electrolytic, film, ceramic, and tantalum.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of design experience designing high voltage and high-power electronics.
  • Experience in magnetics design including transformers and inductors for high-frequency power conversion applications.
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards (IEC 61508 or equivalent) and fault-tolerant design practices; background in aerospace, defense, or nuclear applications a plus.
  • Startup experience or ability to work in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in embedded programming with C/C++.
