Senior Portfolio Underwriter - Remote Location or Hartford CT Office
About the role
The Senior Portfolio Underwriter at HSB is responsible for managing, monitoring, expanding, and optimizing portfolio products for the company’s largest and most critical client relationships. This role is central to achieving profit and growth objectives and serves as a cornerstone of HSB's strategic initiative to foster business growth. The Senior Portfolio Underwriter acts as a catalyst in introducing new products and managing the performance of existing client companies, leveraging HSB’s comprehensive resources—including data, products, and services—to devise innovative solutions.
In collaboration with Product Managers and the Underwriting Lead, the Senior Portfolio Underwriter uses creative data analysis methods, such as diagnostic and predictive analytics, to optimize product performance. These techniques support targeted strategies for corrective actions, rate adequacy, precise price segmentation, and identifying emerging loss trends. Responsibilities include analyzing claims, engineering reports, expenses, exposure data/profile shifts, pure premium trends, and third-party exposure data.
The role also involves crafting and delivering compelling client presentations to communicate financial results, data analyses, rate assessments, and evolving loss trends, positioning the Senior Portfolio Underwriter as the technical authority for clients and the Client Integration Team. With underwriting binding authority, the Senior Portfolio Underwriter makes independent decisions that directly influence the financial outcomes of their assigned portfolio, impacting the company’s P&L.
