Senior Polysomnographic Technologist

About the role

The Senior Polysomnographic Technologist will be responsible for performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in a sleep disorders laboratory, educating patients, and maintaining high-quality data collection and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary person for performing all procedures related to sleep studies including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration, etc.
• Educate patients in sleep study procedures, responding to questions and ensuring all paperwork and consent forms are completed.
• Coordinate various activities within the polysomnography department and assume other duties as assigned.
• Facilitate open, professional communication to achieve mutual understanding, promoting both work efforts and problem resolution.
• Score sleep studies according to guidelines established by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and department policies and procedures.
• Utilize clinical judgement, assist with safety initiatives, and report near misses and errors promptly.
• Accurately document all patient care and polysomnography-related activities and procedures in the appropriate documentation system.
• Evaluate and report on inventory levels, using resources efficiently.
• Identify areas for innovation and improvement for department projects and shared governance activities.

Requirements

• Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section
• Three years experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist in a Sleep Disorders laboratory/center
• BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association
• One of the following certifications: RPSGT - Registered Polysomnographer Technologist (BRPT) or RRT-SDS - Registered Respiratory Therapist Sleep Disorder Specialty (NBRC)

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job
• Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language
• Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers
• Certain computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems to include, Hospital / Sleep Study Information Systems and Office software
• Independent work capability; capable of handling challenging/difficult procedures and patient care situations
• Sound judgment and execution of above-average clinical skills
• Strong interpersonal and team player skills with all levels of the healthcare team
• Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent education
• Two years as a Surgical Technologist
• RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure -
