Senior Plumber

About the role

Keep critical healthcare systems running safely as a Senior Plumber, maintaining and repairing domestic water, wastewater, medical gas, and specialized plumbing systems. You’ll lead preventative maintenance, troubleshoot complex issues, support construction projects, and ensure code compliance. Mentor team members and collaborate with contractors and other trades to keep facility operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preventative and corrective work on the facility’s plumbing infrastructure and equipment, including domestic water systems, wastewater systems, medical gas systems, and specialized water systems.
• Inspect, maintain, repair, and replace water and sewage pipes, valves, and fixtures.
• Assemble, install, rebuild, and repair fixtures such as sinks, showers, commodes, bathtubs, waste disposals, and other special equipment.
• Keep the designated Facilities Services manager informed of needs or changes required to maintain safe and well-maintained facilities infrastructure.
• Coordinate the preventative maintenance program for all plumbing distribution systems to ensure integrity and reliability.
• Monitor and modify the plumbing preventive maintenance program for maximum effectiveness and provide required documentation.
• Modify existing structures by cutting, drilling, or other means to install fixtures and related materials.
• Monitor systems and installation processes to ensure the integrity of assigned plumbing, mechanical, and infrastructure systems.
• Participate in plumbing construction, installation, and commissioning activities as assigned.
• Collaborate with other divisions and departments to meet facility plumbing maintenance, installation, and construction needs.
• Recommend and monitor the use of outside plumbing and mechanical specialty contractors to ensure compliance with hospital standards.
• Provide mentorship and training for Facilities Services department staff, including instruction on plumbing hazards and safe equipment operation.
• Maintain plumbing system parts, materials, and supplies at appropriate levels within budgetary constraints.
• Maintain plumbing replacement schedules and records to stay within the projected capital equipment budget.
• Provide input for department specifications for all components of the hospital’s plumbing systems.
• Oversee and maintain records for facility compliance with all applicable regulatory codes, including local, state, federal, and other authorities.
• Attend annual code compliance training and perform other assigned duties.
• Work independently using specialized skills and knowledge while interacting with staff, co-workers, patients, physicians, visitors, regulatory agencies, contractors, and vendors.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
• Current State-required Plumber’s License as mandated by authorities in Arizona.
• Working knowledge and certification of applicable regulatory codes, including IBC (International Building Codes), UBC (Uniform Building Code), Joint Commission, CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), and State and local building codes.
• At least six years of diversified work experience as a plumber with demonstrated advanced skills in the plumbing and mechanical field.
• Working knowledge of plumbing and mechanical infrastructure systems and components common to the healthcare environment.
• Ability to exercise independent decision-making and judgment in performing duties.
• Ability to work safely and effectively with plumbing equipment.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding maintenance and construction documents.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with common office software programs.
• For positions at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital: possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintenance of the card for the duration of employment; signing of an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire.
• May require Medical Gas certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master Plumber license, if offered by the state.
• Previous construction experience.
• Five to seven years of previous healthcare Facilities Services experience.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM at Banner Desert Medical Center.
