About the role

We're looking for a Senior Platform Reliability Engineer to help us build a reliable and scalable platform at Grow. This role involves shaping reliability standards, improving observability, evolving incident response, and enabling self-service reliability tools.

Responsibilities

  • Define and scale reliability as a first-class capability at Grow
  • Establish frameworks for Service Level Objectives (SLOs)/Service Level Agreements (SLAs), error budgets, and operational readiness
  • Help teams understand what to measure and why it matters
  • Improve observability and measurement by identifying gaps in metrics, logging, and tracing
  • Ensure services are measurable, debuggable, and aligned with reliability goals
  • Develop and improve incident response practices, from detection to post-incident learning
  • Help teams build sustainable on-call and escalation patterns
  • Partner with the platform team to build tooling and abstractions that make it easy for teams to adopt and stay compliant with reliability standards
  • Drive adoption across teams by educating, influencing, and guiding engineering teams

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience operating and improving reliability of production systems at scale
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes (e.g., EKS), and infrastructure as code tools like Terraform
  • Deep understanding of reliability principles, including SLOs/SLAs, error budgets, and improving reliability through measurement and iteration
  • Expertise in modern observability tooling (we use DataDog) and building actionable monitoring systems across metrics, logs, and traces
  • Systems thinking ability to zoom out, identify patterns across teams and services, and design solutions that scale beyond a single system
  • Impact-oriented focus on outcomes over output, caring deeply about improving real reliability outcomes
  • Strong communication and influencer skills to drive change across teams without direct authority
  • Self-directed nature to thrive in ambiguous environments and execute independently
  • Team player who collaborates well, communicates with empathy, and enjoys mentoring and learning from others

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with database reliability and performance (we use PostgreSQL)

Skills

  • Production systems operations and improvements
  • Cloud and infrastructure management (AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform)
  • Reliability principles and practices (SLOs/SLAs, error budgets, observability)
  • Observability tooling (DataDog)
  • Systems thinking and scalability
  • Communication and influence
  • Self-direction and team collaboration
  • Database reliability and performance

Benefits

Comprehensive health coverage, parental leave, financial wellness, meal and home office support, time off to recharge, wellness and development, mental and physical health support, pet insurance discounts, commuter benefits, and global travel assistance.
