Senior Platform Engineer (Enterprise Experience)
About the role
The Senior Platform Engineer will mature deployment artifacts for large enterprises, focusing on hardened images, Terraform modules, Helm charts, and reference architectures.
Responsibilities
- Harden and maintain container images for compliance-driven distribution channels.
- Build and mature Terraform modules and Helm charts used to deploy Coder in customer environments.
- Own reference architectures, ensuring they remain accurate as the platform evolves.
- Improve the upgrade experience for Coder users, making it more reliable and predictable.
- Contribute to architecture decisions and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Mentor other engineers, sharing knowledge and raising the quality of the team's work.
- Hold a high standard for code quality, security, and performance in all shipped products.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in infrastructure or platform engineering, with direct ownership of deployment artifacts used by large enterprise customers.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, Helm, and container images.
- Past experience shipping infrastructure used by large enterprise customers.
- Strong technical depth in Linux, Kubernetes, containers, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with at least one major public cloud: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- A solid understanding of IP networking, HTTP fundamentals, and distributed systems.
- Experience designing CI/CD pipelines and working with observability or monitoring systems.
- Strong judgment around security, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
Qualifications
- Experience with compliance-driven or hardened image work.
- Significant professional experience with Coder's tech stack.
- Prior work on developer tooling.
- Public open source contributions.
- Experience designing reference architectures for enterprise infrastructure.
Skills
- Technical proficiency in backend technologies: Go, Postgres, GCP, Kubernetes, gRPC.
- Technical proficiency in frontend technologies: TypeScript, React, Vite.
- Experience with IDE extensions: TypeScript, Kotlin.
- Experience with observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana.
- Experience with CI/CD tools: GitHub Actions.
- Experience with general tools: GitHub, Slack, Discord, Notion.
