About the role
We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to design, build, and optimize the infrastructure that supports our critical applications and services. This role is focused on implementing geo-replication within Azure Service Bus to address a key resiliency gap. You will act as a senior technical contributor, providing leadership and elevating the team by engineering robust solutions for disaster recovery and high availability. Location: Remote, but onsite in Seattle, WA preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of Azure Service Bus geo-replication.
- Enhance and build out infrastructure using Terraform.
- Improve disaster recovery (DR) and high availability (HA) posture through hands-on implementation and testing.
- Develop and mature operational processes, resiliency practices, and runbooks.
- Mentor a small engineering team and provide technical leadership.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide production support to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Manage and optimize Azure costs and governance.
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure roles with a focus on DR/HA.
- Hands-on experience implementing geo-replication in production environments, specifically with Azure Service Bus.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with strong experience in Terraform.
- Strong understanding of enterprise messaging platforms, pub/sub architectures, and resiliency concepts.
- Experience with business continuity, DR testing, failover, and failback procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to confidently discuss RTO vs. RPO, disaster recovery exercises, and business continuity planning.
- Strong scripting skills for automation tasks (e.g., Python, Bash, or Go).
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in highly transactional environments such as banking, financial services, insurance, or enterprise SaaS.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, GKE).
