Responsibilities
- Respond to alarms of fire or other emergencies.
- Lay and connect hoses, direct water streams, raise and climb ladders, and use chemical extinguishers.
- Ventilate burning buildings, remove persons from danger, administer emergency medical care to injured persons, and perform salvage operations.
- Assist in conducting fire prevention inspections, and enforcing fire-related codes and ordinances.
- Maintain Fire Department equipment, furnishings, and structures at all times.
- Aid in the housekeeping and maintenance of the fire station.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School graduation or equivalent.
- Previous firefighting and/or paramedic experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of modern fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency rescue techniques.
- Understanding of principles of fire behavior.
- CPR techniques.
Qualifications
- California State Certified Firefighter I or certification of completion from a California State Board of Fire Service Approved Fire Academy within one year prior to appointment.
- Verification of skills maintenance through additional classes or service in a fire reserve program.
- Emergency Medical Technician I (EMT) Certification.
- Current CPR certification.
- Valid California Class “C” Driver’s License.
Special Requirements
- Ability to work irregular hours or long periods of time without relief, including but not limited to 24 hour shifts, overtime, emergency call back, shift work, holidays, and weekends.
