Senior Plant Operator

Responsibilities

• Respond to alarms of fire or other emergencies.
• Lay and connect hoses, direct water streams, raise and climb ladders, and use chemical extinguishers.
• Ventilate burning buildings, remove persons from danger, administer emergency medical care to injured persons, and perform salvage operations.
• Assist in conducting fire prevention inspections, and enforcing fire-related codes and ordinances.
• Maintain Fire Department equipment, furnishings, and structures at all times.
• Aid in the housekeeping and maintenance of the fire station.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School graduation or equivalent.
• Previous firefighting and/or paramedic experience is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of modern fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency rescue techniques.
• Understanding of principles of fire behavior.
• CPR techniques.

Qualifications

• California State Certified Firefighter I or certification of completion from a California State Board of Fire Service Approved Fire Academy within one year prior to appointment.
• Verification of skills maintenance through additional classes or service in a fire reserve program.
• Emergency Medical Technician I (EMT) Certification.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid California Class “C” Driver’s License.

Special Requirements

• Ability to work irregular hours or long periods of time without relief, including but not limited to 24 hour shifts, overtime, emergency call back, shift work, holidays, and weekends.
