Senior Planner, Multimodal Planning

About the role

The Senior Planner at Cambridge Systematics, Inc. (CS) plays a pivotal role in shaping transportation strategies and policies. This position requires a combination of deep expertise in specific practice areas and the ability to contribute to strategic business decisions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with other technical leaders and project managers across business units
• Lead projects or tasks in practice areas including safety; corridor planning; long-range planning; asset, performance, and risk management; and resilience and sustainability
• Inform research and influence clients' policy, process, and strategy, including investment decisions
• Develop collaborative relationships with public agency clients across Texas, including the Texas Department of Transportation and Metropolitan Planning Organizations
• Identify future policy and programming opportunities
• Build connections with peer firms and lead teaming negotiations with other consulting firms
• Train, manage, and mentor junior staff and motivate multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Policy, Transportation Economics or a related area
• 15+ years of industry-related experience
• 8+ years of experience managing projects and leading proposals
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong and effective communication, presentation, and technical writing skills
• A strong professional network in the transportation industry

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Policy, Transportation Economics or a related area
• Demonstrated project experience—current or prior—with the Texas Department of Transportation and Metropolitan Planning Organizations, including direct engagement in policy, planning, programming, or statewide transportation initiatives
• 5+ years of experience in public sector consulting and professional services
