Senior Physical Therapist
About the role
The Senior Physical Therapist (Sr PT) position at Houston Methodist is responsible for formal duties for a service line, shift, or multiple clinics. This role performs patient assessments, develops a plan of care, and provides corresponding treatments across a broad range of diagnoses and acuity levels. The Sr PT also manages the collection of metrics, analyzes data, and leads process and quality improvement initiatives. They serve as a mentor and resource to all team members, conducting quality assurance audits, and providing feedback to management on staff performance.
Responsibilities
- Performs comprehensive patient evaluations to identify functional levels and develops a plan of care
- Develops and implements treatment plans for complex cases and patient populations
- Provides patient education and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams
- Mentors and trains other physical therapists, developing their skills and advancing their professional practice
- Coordinates and monitors quality and safety metrics for the practice area and department
- Oversees patient care processes and adjusts activities as needed to ensure quality outcomes and patient safety
- Advocates for patients, resolving clinical and ethical concerns and driving improvements in patient satisfaction
Requirements
- Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s)
- Five years as a Physical Therapist; or four years of experience as a Physical Therapist with a specialty certification
- State licensure as a Physical Therapist (PSV within 90 days)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) or Instructor (AHA)
- Specialty certification highly preferred

- Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English
- Effective communication skills, including active listening and teaching
- Sound judgment and ability to handle challenging/difficult therapy procedures and patient care situations
- Ability to coach and develop strong interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills
- Excellent delivery of customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers
- Proficient computer knowledge and operation of rehabilitation equipment
- Demonstrated professional competence in selecting, evaluating, and utilizing treatment plans for complex patient populations
