Senior Patient Accounts Manager

About the role

Supervise financial and administrative operations and reporting with responsibility for policy development and implementation. Provide interpretation to faculty and staff regarding third-party insurance plans and oversee all aspects of patient accounting within the College of Optometry.

Responsibilities

• Develop, recommend, and implement administrative procedures.
• Train, evaluate, and supervise patient accounting staff in processing accounts receivable for all clinical services.
• Supervise the collection and processing of cash, checks, and credit card charges.
• Work with the Associate Director of Clinical Operations to process patient refunds.
• Oversee submission of insurance claims and verify accuracy of claim information.
• Approve fee waivers for treatment and discount authorizations for employees and students.
• Assist in funding arrangements for indigent patients.
• Verify treatment procedures with faculty and students to clarify billing requirements.
• Oversee generation of monthly billing statements and reconcile account discrepancies using EHR reports.
• Obtain insurance authorizations for patients and counsel them on payment procedures and options.
• Prepare delinquent accounts for collection and bad debt protocol.
• Review accounts for correctness in billing rates, insurance coverage, co-pays, and services billed.
• Oversee compilation of data and preparation of reports for the College of Optometry fiscal office and campus finance office.
• Supervise handling of Medicaid patients and third-party payment accounts.
• Correspond with patients to resolve billing questions.
• Investigate new insurance plans and apply payments to patient accounts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
• Authorization to work in the United States (University will not sponsor employment visas for this position).

Supervision

Direction is received from the Associate Dean of Clinical Operations. Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over billing staff, including Sr Patient Account Specialist and Patient Account Specialist.

Pay

Anticipated hiring range: $60,819 to $74,453.

Schedule

40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
