About the role

The NVIDIA Legal Department is seeking a Senior Patent Counsel to join a growing team focused on protecting and developing NVIDIA's intellectual property. The ideal candidate will contribute to the company's success through innovative solutions and strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in patent protection processes for NVIDIA's technology developments.
  • Outreach and provide training, education, and counsel to internal clients on patent filing and acquisition, and freedom of action.
  • Instruct and direct outside counsel on patent application drafting, filing, and prosecution (domestic and foreign) to ensure compliance with NVIDIA guidelines and local laws.
  • Making strategic decisions to develop the patent portfolio to proactively meet emerging trends and address changing demands.
  • Partner with other members of the Legal Department on various intellectual property-related matters, including assertions, patent portfolio valuation and assessment during transactions and corporate mergers and acquisitions, and IP licensing.
  • Develop subject matter expertise and drive team client counseling, invention harvesting, and evaluation for specific IP-active areas.
  • Participate and provide counsel for NVIDIA contributions to standards setting organizations, university collaborations, industry workgroups, and technology conferences.
  • Collaborate on the development and deployment of Patent Department policies, practices, and tools.

Requirements

  • A technical undergraduate degree (preferably EE or Computer Science), or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in patent application drafting and prosecution.
  • A J.D. degree with a strong academic record and a license to practice law in California.
  • Registration to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication, organizational abilities, and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a high-tech industry, particularly in hardware architectures, advanced computing, networking technologies, artificial intelligence, and software engineering.
  • Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications to issuance in high performance computing, hyperconverged computing infrastructure, high bandwidth data transport, data center clusters, generative and applied artificial intelligence, and autonomous machines.
  • A passion for innovation, technology, and continuous learning.
  • Foreign filing experience.
  • Previous in-house experience with portfolio management.

Benefits

NVIDIA offers competitive compensation, including a base salary range of $192,000 - $304,750 for Level 4 and $224,000 - $356,500 for Level 5, along with equity and comprehensive benefits.

Pay

Base salary is determined based on location, experience, and the pay of employees in similar positions.

Schedule

The position is open until March 29, 2026.
