About the Role
The pastor serves as the spiritual leader of the church, responsible to the Lord and the congregation for proclaiming the gospel, teaching the Bible, providing pastoral care, and offering supervisory leadership across all ministry areas. The pastor also administers both paid and volunteer staff.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct worship services; prepare and deliver sermons and lead in observance of the church ordinances.
- Lead the church in an effective evangelism program and a caring ministry for those in the church and community.
- Lead the church in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the total program of the church (Church Council).
- Cooperate with the local association, state convention, and Southern Baptist Convention leadership in matters of mutual interest and concern. Represent the church in civic matters.
- Act as moderator of the church business meeting.
- Work with deacons, church officers, and committees as they perform their assigned responsibilities.
- Serve as administrator of the paid church staff; supervise the work of the ministry staff, including both volunteer and paid ministers and directors.
- Recommend and advise committees and teams as an ex-officio member.
- Visit and minister to members and prospective members in homes, nursing care facilities, and hospitals.
- Oversee, along with deacons, all church discipline matters of members and the management of conflict issues in the church.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
