What will you do?
- Design and develop opto-mechanical assemblies and sub-systems for diverse applications including machine vision, consumer product development, automation, optical metrology, laser communication, energy transfer, and imaging
- Create prototypes, detailed drawings, and production instructions
- Analyze risks and perform Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Create a tolerance budget for each component
- Document models, CAD drawings, simulations, Bill of Materials (BOM), etc.
- Work closely with program managers and customers on technical requirements
- Manage multiple tasks and projects independently
- Mentor and assist junior engineers
- Collaborate on project plans, proposals, and schedules
- Prepare PowerPoint slides for customer design reviews
Essential Job Functions
- Design and develop opto-mechanical assemblies and sub-systems for high performance optical systems in challenging environments
- Build prototypes and perform optical metrology and alignment techniques
- Apply GD&T principles according to ASME Y14.5M
- Use CAD/CAE software (SolidWorks preferred) for design validation
- Use optical raytracing software (e.g., Zemax, CodeV) and image processing techniques
- Experience with optical alignment techniques in a laboratory setting
- Must be a US Person (U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident)
What are we looking for?
- A BS and/or MS in Mechanical or related Engineering field or equivalent experience
- 6-15 years of experience in opto-mechanical design and integration for high performance optical systems in challenging environments
- Optical system design and opto-mechanical packaging
- Optical metrology and alignment techniques
- Precision mechanics (kinematic mounts) and heat transfer design
- Finite element analysis techniques
- Familiarity with optical raytracing software and image processing techniques
Compensation and Benefits
- Opto-Mechanical Senior Engineer pay range: $114,609.25 – 187,270.02*
- Opto-Mechanical Lead Engineer pay range: $138,677.20 - 226,596.73**
- This pay range represents base pay. Additional benefits include discretionary performance-based bonuses, employee stock ownership plans, medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans with company match.
