Senior Optical Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Focal Plane Packaging Engineer to develop and assemble electro-optical (EO) focal plane subsystems for space applications. The role involves executing precision microelectronic packaging processes, integrating mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical interfaces, and working in a cleanroom environment to manufacture space-flight hardware.

Responsibilities

• Design packaging concepts for electro-optical focal plane subsystems.
• Develop and refine assembly processes for various spectral ranges.
• Maintain process documentation and configuration control.
• Conduct manufacturing readiness reviews.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality standards.
• Support mission-critical projects across civil, defense, and tactical space programs.

Requirements

• BSc or higher in Engineering or a related field with 4+ years of experience; higher degrees may substitute for experience.
• Hands-on experience with cleanroom assembly and process documentation.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work on-site regularly, with potential travel.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with detector packaging, microelectronics, die attach, wire bonding, soldering, flip chip, and contamination control.
• Knowledge of assembly protocols, vacuum bake, plasma etch, thin film deposition, and thermal design.
