Senior Ops Pharmacy Tech III

The Operations Pharmacy Technician III assists in most aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. This role involves preparing unit-dose medications, delivering medications, and ordering and delivering drug supplies. Duties include reading physician orders/prescriptions, preparing medications for dispensing, communicating with patients or caregivers, and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Prepares unit-dose medications and delivers medications
• Orders and delivers drug supplies
• Reads and prepares medications for dispensing, including unique dosage forms for pediatric and geriatric patient populations
• Communicates with patients or caregivers regarding medication, possession, and scheduling
• Takes inventory and analyzes patient-care area medication supplies, replacing outdated or deteriorated medications
• Accurately prepares and labels non-intravenous medications, including oral solutions/suspensions for pediatric patients
• Performs arithmetic calculations for usual dosage determinations required in medication and solution preparation
• Maintains inventory and supplies in assigned pharmacy service areas
• Answers telephone and channels calls to appropriate individuals
• Ensures cleanliness and orderliness of pharmacy service areas and drug storage areas
• Assists in the training of pharmacy technicians
• Participates on safety or quality improvement projects for the department and/or organization
• Acts as a subject matter expert in a specified area within pharmacy operations
• Acts as a mentor or role model for Pharmacy Technician I or Pharmacy Technician II

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided (MD: Pharmacy Technician License or Pharmacy Technician Student Permit, OH: Certified or Registered Pharmacy Technician License or Trainee License, PA: Pharmacy Technician OR Pharmacy Technician Trainee License, WV: Pharmacy Technician License or Trainee License)
• Nationally certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
• Three (3) years of pharmacy technician or healthcare experience

Qualifications

• Associates degree or post-high school education in a science field of study
• Graduate of a pharmacy technician training program
