Primary Responsibilities
- Identify appropriate assignment of ICD-10-CM codes and CPT-4 for observation services provided in a hospital setting
- Add additional data elements during the chart review process when coding, as needed
- Adhere to the ethical standards of coding as established by AAPC and / or AHIMA
- Adhere to and maintain required levels of performance in both coding quality and productivity as established by Optum360
- Profilcience in coding infusions and injections based on coding guidelines and hierarchy
- Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate
- Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge by reviewing materials disseminated / recommended by the Coding Supervisors
- Participate in coding department meetings and educational events
- Review and maintain a record of charts coded, held, and / or missing
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
- Current coding credentials from AHIMA or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H)
- 5+ years of coding experience
- 2+ years of outpatient facility and professional coding experience
- 2+ years of experience working with Observation Coding and I&I Coding
- 2+ years of ICD-10 experience
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Windows environment including MS Excel and EMR systems
- Access to reliable transportation and valid US driver's license
