Senior Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer

About the role

Location: On-site in Lynchburg, Virginia

The successful candidate will perform Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) evaluations to define the safety basis for operation of new or changing facilities, equipment, or processes involving uranium-bearing materials. They will execute computer models to evaluate normal operations and process upsets relative to NRC License limits and requirements. The individual will be responsible for evaluating accident sequences and designating Items Relied on For Safety to prevent a criticality accident from occurring. The role also includes performing routine surveillance, inspections, and audits of areas where licensed material is used or stored to ensure compliance with NRC License requirements. They will provide operational areas with specific NCS input and oversight as necessary.

Requirements

• B.S. or MS degree in Engineering.
• Minimum five (5) years of NCS experience, preferably in an NRC licensed fuel cycle facility.
• A working knowledge of SCALE/KENO.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Qualifications

• Nuclear Engineering degree is preferred.
• Familiarity with 10 CFR part 70 is beneficial.

Pay

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) is expected to be between $86,000 and $136,000 per year. The base salary offered may vary depending on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. The total compensation package may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
