Senior Network Security Engineer

About the role

The Senior Network Security Engineer will provide technical expertise and leadership in the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure network infrastructures supporting the State of California.

Responsibilities

• Configure and troubleshoot network protocols including Ethernet, VLAN, L2TP, CDP, MPLS, RIPv2, BGP, IPv4, IPv6, IPsec, SFTP, TCP, TLS, NTP, and DNS.
• Manage and troubleshoot network hardware and software such as Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, F5, and Ciena devices.
• Implement and manage virtualization solutions like VMWare NSX.
• Deploy and maintain security appliances such as Cisco ASA, Juniper SRX, Palo Alto Firewall, and F5.
• Ensure application security through ASM/WAF, TippingPoint, and DDoS technologies.
• Design and implement secure VPN solutions including IPsec, IKE, DMVPN, AnyConnect, and SD-WAN.
• Document network designs, modifications, and troubleshooting processes.
• Perform sniffer packet captures and protocol analysis.
• Develop and execute scripts using Perl, Python, Java, PowerShell, etc.
• Conduct analysis and design of network security alternatives.
• Utilize SIEM tools for security information and event management.
• Evaluate, deploy, and manage vendor managed services.

Requirements

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in AWS and/or Azure networking services.
• Complex documentation of network designs, modifications, and troubleshooting processes.
• Experience with Intrusion Protection Systems/Intrusion Detection Systems (IPS/IDS).
• Knowledge of NIST 800-53 v4 security controls.
• Familiarity with vendor managed services evaluation, deployment, and management.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Expert-level experience in network protection and security.
• TippingPoint Intrusion Protection System Expert Certification.

Skills

• Strong understanding of network protocols and hardware.
• Proficiency in scripting languages.
• Experience with complex network designs and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of security controls and best practices.
