Senior Network Engineer Team Lead CONUS w/Secret Clearance

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join our team supporting a government customer within the Continental United States (CONUS). This role is critical in ensuring the highly complex and technical requirements related to the infrastructure of the Department of Defense (DoD) and Defense Health Agency (DHA) are addressed, directly supporting the medical mission of the DoD.

Responsibilities

• Identify and resolve complex LAN/WLAN/WAN network problems and issues.
• Research network-level problems using network management tools.
• Provide high-level installation, configuration, documentation, management, and troubleshooting of LAN/WLAN/WAN communication equipment for all DHA networked facilities.
• Serve as the premier Network Specialist and subject matter expert for all network-related issues on the contract.
• Act as the CONUS and global point of contact for network issues, configuration management, communications interconnection, addressing, multi-protocol routing, and network management.
• Advise and consult with government staff, agencies, and other contractor representatives on LAN/WLAN/WAN design, implementation, deployment, and management to ensure optimal performance for the Military Health System (MHS) mission.
• Lead and interface with Network Specialists and internal/external organizations to resolve LAN/WLAN/WAN issues.
• Resolve technical issues associated with network and routing protocols at all levels of the OSI model using diagnostics and network administration tools such as Orion SolarWinds, ARMIS, and Ansible.
• Utilize Management Information Blocks (MIB) and Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) to measure, plan, and execute methodologies ensuring high performance and minimum downtime.
• Maintain and enhance LAN/WLAN/WAN security, including configuring network firewalls, VPN devices, and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) to prevent unauthorized access.
• Provide written recommendations for network-level changes or enhancements, documenting changes via tickets, written standards, or updates to existing standards in coordination with the NetMOD Network Standards Team.
• Study vendor products to determine optimal components and configurations for DoD and Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) in the CONUS region.
• Establish and implement LAN/WLAN/WAN procedures and standards to ensure compliance with DoD and DHA objectives and policies.
• Communicate with key customers regarding the status of all network support requests.
• Evaluate and resolve complex technical issues associated with network and routing protocols at all OSI model levels using diagnostics and network administration tools.
• Provide proactive input on policies and issues related to standardization, and develop policies and procedures identifying best practices for LAN/WLAN/WAN operations.
• Define and establish minimum standards for LAN/WLAN/WAN access and its impact on overall network operations.
• Lead or participate in additional projects and support as needed.

Requirements

• Mastery of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, XDM, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, RSTP, VRRP, BIND, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, PPP, HDLC, V.35, RS-449, and IEEE standards (802.1d, 802.1q, 802.1w, 802.3, 802.5, 802.10, 802.11, 802.3u, 803.2, 802.3z).
• Clear understanding and direct experience with synchronous/asynchronous communications, Ethernet (including Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet), FDDI, ATM, and other DoD/DHA communication mediums.
• Experience with Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), cable testers, network sniffers, and EIA/TIA cable standards and specifications.
• Mastery-level experience in routed, switched, and shared LAN environments using Microsoft OS, Windows Active Directory, UNIX, OpenVMS, routers, switches, terminal servers, and various WAN connectivity solutions.
• Demonstrated experience supporting government agencies, customers, or contracts within federal environments, including the Intelligence Community (IC), DoD, Federal Civil agencies, and military organizations.
• Prior experience supporting similar contracts, with an in-depth understanding of the customer environment, requirements, and operational landscape (highly desirable).
• Experience with DoD Health Care Information Systems.
• Expertise in Windows networks, Cisco Systems, and Orion SolarWinds.
• Experience with Zero Trust Architectures and Methodologies (desired).
• Leadership experience managing geographically dispersed teams across multiple time zones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, plus five (5) years of directly related experience; OR successful completion of a certified Technical or Vocational School and ten (10) years of directly related experience gained through progressively higher levels of complexity.
• Required Certifications:
  • DoD 8570 IAM III
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)

Skills

• Verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with government officials, medical professionals, and highly specialized technical personnel.
• Proven ability to handle a range of technical tasks directly related to network engineering and infrastructure support.

Work Environment

• Location: Candidates must reside in one of the approved hiring states within the U.S.: AL, AK, AZ, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, ID, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MI, MS, MO, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV, WI, WY.
• Type of Environment: Remote.
• Noise Level: Medium.
• Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except Federal holidays.
• Amount of Travel: 25%.

U.S. Citizen with an active Secret clearance.
