About the role
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Information and Network Security, this senior-level, hands-on engineering role is responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and supporting the college’s statewide Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN).
Responsibilities
- Design, manage, and support statewide LAN/WAN, Internet access, disaster recovery (DR), wireless, and VPN services
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot routers, switches, and wireless technologies
- Review and recommend enhancements to the college’s data and telecommunications infrastructure to drive continuous service improvement
- Analyze assigned problems and develop solutions; guide the end-to-end implementation of network projects
- Develop communication plans for both planned and unplanned outages
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, inventory, and security measures associated with the college network infrastructure
- Maintain high standards of quality by developing effective operational procedures and system documentation
- Mentor the statewide network engineering team
- Share expertise with peers and foster a team-oriented environment
- Work effectively and diplomatically with peers, customers, and external entities
- Present technical sessions and serve on task forces as requested
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in a related field with documented work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Five or more years of hands-on work experience in a technical environment.
- Experience in higher education preferred.
- Extensive experience with Cisco and Juniper environments
- Extensive experience with OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and Multicast
- Extensive experience with enterprise network design and architecture
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and diagnose network and application performance issues
- Strong network documentation skills and experience creating network diagrams
- Experience with QoS, VLANs, ACLs, PBR, IP SLAs, HA technologies
- Experience with different types of wiring, cable types, and standards
- Experience with optical multiplexing technologies
- Experience with common network protocols and services
- Experience configuring and deploying different types of VPN technologies
- Familiarity with Zero Trust networking principles and network security best practices, with a willingness to help evaluate and implement a Zero Trust framework
- Experience with enterprise network management and monitoring solutions
- Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Qualifications
- Production experience with software-defined networks
- API network management
- Production experience with Nexus, Meraki, ACI, Mist, and UCS platforms
- Desired Skills

- Professional certifications: CCNP, JNCIP
