Structured Communication Systems, Inc is seeking a customer-focused Senior Network Engineer in Clackamas, Oregon to design, implement, support, and optimize enterprise networking solutions for a diverse customer base while serving as a trusted technical advisor throughout the solution lifecycle.
About the role
You will collaborate with customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders to develop innovative networking solutions, resolve complex technical challenges, and deliver successful projects that meet business and technical objectives.
Responsibilities
- Design, install, configure, troubleshoot, and manage enterprise networking solutions.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend network-related tools, technologies, and solutions to meet customer business and technical objectives.
- Interface with customers and end users to design and implement networking solutions and provide network policy recommendations.
- Translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications.
- Develop implementation plans and technical designs that meet customer performance, scalability, and cost objectives while improving system reliability, reducing risk, and minimizing total lifecycle cost.
- Assist engineers with complex technical tasks, including debugging, hardware support, system integration, and advanced troubleshooting.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues, including escalated support requests from Structured's Managed Services team.
- Provide advanced technical expertise to support the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of customer network environments.
- Manage customer interactions professionally, providing timely communication regarding expectations, project status, issue resolution, and completion while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
- Provide product training, technical support, and knowledge transfer to customers and internal teams.
- Serve as a technical advisor by recommending networking solutions aligned with customer business and operational needs.
- Assist sales personnel with pre-sales technical support and identify professional services opportunities in security, networking, storage/systems, virtualization, and voice/mobility.
- Communicate Structured's value proposition through technical presentations, proposals, demonstrations, and supporting sales collateral as needed.
- Lead or assist with network-related projects, managing scope, timelines, work assignments, stakeholder communication, and successful implementation.
- Manage assigned projects and technical work to ensure effective, efficient, and timely service delivery.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), project scopes, implementation plans, Statements of Work (SOWs), and operational procedures.
- Follow established policies and procedures and maintain accurate, timely activity, project, customer, and service records within Structured's CRM and service delivery tools.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least twelve (12) years of experience in a technology-related field, including seven (7) years of experience in systems analysis.
- Direct experience with physical networking infrastructure, including cabling standards, optical fiber technologies, network interfaces, connectors, and physical connectivity troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with Layer 2 networking technologies, including Ethernet, VLANs, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), and Layer 2 security.
- Advanced knowledge of enterprise routing technologies, including OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, IP addressing, subnetting, VRF, and IPv4/IPv6 networking.
- Experience with enterprise networking platforms including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Aruba, or equivalent technologies.
- Experience with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) technologies.
- Experience with network security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, access control, and network security best practices.
- Advanced working knowledge of enterprise switch configuration, QoS, PoE, multicast, and Precision Time Protocol technologies.
- Experience with MPLS, SD-WAN, WAN optimization, and remote access solutions.
- Knowledge of modern data center networking architectures, including spine-leaf designs, VXLAN, EVPN, and high-availability configurations.
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience with cloud networking concepts and services within AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments.
- Experience with network automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, or Chef, and scripting languages including Python, PowerShell, or Shell.
- Experience with network monitoring, performance analysis, and troubleshooting tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience with change management, technical documentation, configuration management, process automation, solution design, and implementation.
- Advanced networking certifications such as Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert (JNCIE), or equivalent certifications preferred.
- Experienced user of Microsoft Office Suite and customer relationship management (CRM) tools, such as Salesforce.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret quotes and reports; communicate effectively in English, including reading, writing, speaking, and understanding.
- Valid Driver’s License and motor vehicle insurance meeting applicable state minimum coverage requirements; ability to travel to customer locations and other destinations for meetings, conferences, and short- to medium-term projects.
- Must reside in or near the Portland, Oregon area.

Physical Requirements
- Work is generally sedentary but may require frequent standing, walking, talking, and hearing.

- Ability to occasionally travel to customer locations or attend customer and vendor events.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in both general office and data center environments.
- Office lighting and temperature are generally moderate.
- Data center environment is generally cool with moderate lighting and generally loud noise levels.
- May require adjusted work schedules and evening hours to meet vendor/customer needs.
- Flexibility to field phone calls or system alerts and provide remote and/or on-site support outside normal business hours, including weekends and holidays.
Pay
$125,000.00 - $155,000.00 annually.
