Senior Network Developer
About the Role
Designs and develops advanced network systems for large-scale enterprise, data center, or cloud-based environments. Provides expertise in solution design and validation, and collaborates with vendors and internal groups for thorough validation. Builds moderately complex modules within automation frameworks for testing and operations, optimizes network tasks, and proactively monitors network health with advanced scripts. Develops test cases and strategies, leads testing protocols, and ensures compliance through pre-production testing. Enhances tools for monitoring, incident response, and frontline support.
Responsibilities
- Network Design, Development, and Validation:
- Designs and develops advanced network fabric and systems for large-scale enterprise, data center, or cloud-based environments.
- Validates production networks and develops scaling strategies for varied use cases.
- Participates in network solution and architecture design/validation, providing expertise and guidance.
- Identifies and assesses complex risks in network design before deployment, recommending mitigations.
- Collaborates with vendors and internal groups (e.g., quality assurance) to ensure hardware, firmware, software, and cloud network code.
- Designs playbooks for investigations to resolve common network issues.
- Analyzes network workflows and proposes optimizations to enhance performance and efficiency.
- Automation and Scripting:
- Designs and builds moderately complex modules within automation frameworks for testing and operations.
- Automates critical network tasks in production and lab environments, optimizing repetitive support functions.
- Builds and customizes dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms to proactively monitor network health.
- Writes and enhances advanced scripts to automate routine tasks across teams and business units.
- Uses and adjusts infrastructure pipelines and configuration items using established playbooks.
- Independently configures tools to meet requirements of new products or services.
- Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Develops standalone, moderately complex test cases and test strategies to ensure network integrity.
- Serves as technical lead for test practices and strategies, guiding the team and collaborating with stakeholders.
- Implements new approaches to improve break-fix validation and post-event root cause analysis (RCA).
- Conducts L1 network change reviews and presents network changes to change management review boards.
- Validates systems and environments through pre-production testing to ensure compliance with internal standards.
- Provides audit documentation and evidence for Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC).
- Monitoring and Reliability:
- Maintains advanced dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms to monitor network health.
- Defines metrics, trends, and thresholds to ensure service level objectives (SLOs).
- Provides feedback to enhance detection and diagnosis of network anomalies.
- Participates in operational support rotations, guiding incident response and root cause investigations.
- Develops and enhances tools for frontline support teams to improve response to network failures.
- Cross-Team Collaboration and Leadership:
- Works with project managers to ensure achievement of critical test and deployment milestones.
- Mentors junior engineers and provides subject matter expert (SME) guidance on technical issues.
- Engages with customers to clarify technical issues and contributes to RCA documentation.
- Contributes to roadmap and software architecture discussions.
- Collaborates with vendors and internal teams to ensure adherence to networking standards.
- Performance and Capacity Management:
- Analyzes network performance metrics (e.g., latency, throughput, packet loss) to identify efficiency issues.
- Scales network independently based on capacity and performance metrics.
- Core Responsibilities:
- Independently manages work, monitoring timelines and deliverables to ensure project success.
- Proactively prioritizes work and adapts to resource or timeline shifts.
- Collaborates across teams to align on expectations and achieve shared objectives.
- Builds and maintains understanding of business, stakeholder, and customer needs.
- Identifies and addresses standard and non-standard issues, escalating complex issues as needed.
- Analyzes data from multiple sources to troubleshoot errors and contribute to knowledge sharing.
- Embraces continuous learning and seeks feedback to improve skills and stay current with industry trends.
- Recommends updates to improve efficiency and effectiveness of processes and workflows.
Qualifications
Certain U.S.-based or U.S. customer/client-facing roles may require compliance with immunization, occupational health mandates, or drug testing.
Pay
Hiring range in the U.S.: $91,400 - $187,000 per year. Eligible for bonus and equity.
