About the role
This position involves underwriting residential mortgage loans to ensure compliance with guidelines from applicable insuring and guaranteeing agencies, investors, and SouthState Bank. Responsibilities include utilizing Automated Underwriting Systems, reviewing borrower information for fraud detection, and ensuring adherence to SouthState Bank’s Corporate Code of Conduct and Ethics, as well as other operating procedures. The role may also include supervising a team of underwriters.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite residential first mortgage loans within assigned lending authority according to applicable guidelines of insuring and guaranteeing agencies, secondary market investors, and/or SouthState Bank credit policies.
- Examine documentation provided by borrowers and third-party verification sources for validity and compliance with AUS findings and/or manual underwriting standards.
- Review property appraisals to ensure collateral acceptability in accordance with corporate, agency, and investor standards.
- Review fraud reports and condition loans appropriately for issue resolution.
- Issue loan approvals, review and clear underwriting conditions, and issue loan denials with options for second review.
- Respond to questions from Mortgage Loan Officers, Mortgage Processors, Closers, and others regarding underwriting decisions, conditions, and general policy or scenario questions.
- Perform second reviews of denied loans.
- Update Loan Origination System and Automated Underwriting Systems.
- Underwrite multiple loan types and/or loans with highly complex income and loan scenarios using AUS findings or manual underwriting processes.
- Serve as an expert resource to other underwriters, sales partners, and external stakeholders for consultation on complex income and loan scenarios, appraisals, and other mortgage underwriting topics within a designated specialty area.
- Accept and perform other duties as deemed essential.
Pay
Pay for this position is anticipated to be between $76,260.00 and $121,819.00. Actual offers will be determined based on the applicant’s skills, experience, and education.
