About the role
You will report directly to the Chief Mining Engineer and play a key part in developing, optimizing, and executing the long, medium, and short-range mine plans that support safe, efficient, and sustainable production.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Mining Engineer to design achievable, cost-effective mine plans, including near-term, mid-term, and long-term plans.
- Create and update pit phase designs, waste dump designs, and associated schedules to support both medium- and long-term goals.
- Develop mine plans and waste dump plans at the appropriate level of detail to optimize long-term objectives and meet short-term commitments.
- Prepare daily mine plan compliance report to management.
- Ensure pit walls and dumps comply with design and regulation permits ensuring safe and profitable operations.
- Verify the tons and grade extracted from the mine according to the royalty-holder agreements.
- Create daily drill pattern designs and provide feedback to efficiently achieve monthly mine plan goals and design compliance, including both grade-control and production drilling.
- Identify and implement initiatives that improve mine planning, productivity, and equipment utilization and overall cost efficiency.
- Identify opportunities in mining sequence and design to improve the delivery of gold and silver to the leach pad at a lower cost.
- Produce periodic reconciliation calculations comparing the reserves block model, ore control model, production models, and mining actuals to identify any source of variance and recommend opportunities for improvement.
- Manage and oversee reporting on mine performance against plan, identify deviations, and recommend corrective actions to improve results.
- Assist with the development of procedures for handling, accounting, estimating, and reconciling mined material.
- Manage and oversee reporting of mine production for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly periods.
- Effectively communicate mine plans, economic evaluations, risks, and opportunities to allow management to make the best possible decisions.
- Communicate with management on planning process, design changes, and any special projects.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and performance oversight for engineers and survey personnel.
- Collaborate with geology, operations, survey, process, and maintenance teams to ensure alignment between mine planning objectives and business goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering.
- 7+ years of planning experience in large open-pit operations.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Able to work effectively across departments and organizational levels.
- Strong communication skills including preparation of technical reports and presentations to management and peers across the value stream.
- Familiar with methodology for sampling and ore reserve estimation.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MineSight, and Microsoft Office, and, preferably, proficiency in Leapfrog.
