Overview
The Senior Chem/Met Lab Technician position is available in Park City, UT at Triumph Geared Solutions, a leading independent aerospace gear and gear box supplier.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day activities and priorities of the Chemical/Metallurgical Laboratory to support the business
- Daily collaboration with cross-functional teams including operations, engineering, test, and manufacturing to ensure high quality products are delivered to our customers on time
- Collaborate to maintain and develop processes and methods for Heat Treat activities in accordance with AMS 2759 and AMS-H-6875 standards
- Solve difficult and complex heat-treating problems
- Participate in the daily Metric Tier meetings to ensure production issues are escalated appropriately
- Contribute and participate in providing guidance/training to the site in respect to upcoming changes to NADCAP by actively staying abreast of industry changes
- Act as the main focal point for NADCAP Audits for Chemical Processing and Heat Treat
- Perform a variety of technical procedures such as preparing routine solutions and reagents and performing routine reactions
- Analyze compounds
- Conduct process capability studies, calculate statistical information, and interpret results
- Use computer to perform all technical and record keeping duties in conformance with company and regulatory procedures and standards to meet quality and accuracy requirements
- Perform technical procedures in multiple areas and prepare for evaluations
- Keep records that conform to company requirements and regulatory requirements
- Oversee material hardness testing in accordance with ASTM E-384, ASTM E-18, ASTM E-92 and ASTM E-140 standards
- Provide technical assistance in heat treatment testing and validation methods and equipment specifications to ensure compliance with internal and external heat treatment requirements
- Independently manage multiple projects and activities to meet safety, quality, cost, delivery, and continuous improvement goals while meeting planned deadlines
- Follow all prescribed safety rules and regulations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or in the area of Material Science
- 5+ years of experience in a chemical/metallurgical testing laboratory environment in aerospace industry
- Familiarity/experience with AS9100 and NADCAP Heat Treating regulations/compliance and ASTM & ASM standards
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and industry specifications
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interface with an organization at all levels
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated work ethic
- Ability to take the initiative to become involved in activities to help resolve problems and make improvements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Chemistry or in the area of Material Science
- Fundamental knowledge of microstructure-property relationships in case and through-hardened steels used in bearings and gears
- Experience in the development and validation of Heat Treat processes in accordance with NADCAP standards
- Experience with optical and electron microscopy and standard metallurgical analysis equipment (i.e. sample preparation, x-ray diffraction, etc.)
- Experience in failure analysis and failure prevention methods and activities
- Leverage / Six Sigma Experience
- AS9102 First Article Inspection experience
- AS13100 knowledge/experience
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) trained
