About the role

The Senior M/E Engineer will manage increasingly complex mechanical, electrical, and field construction activities. This position provides leadership in estimating, scheduling, quality control, and commissioning for mechanical/electrical scopes of work, while mentoring M/E personnel. Responsibilities include data collection, estimate development, systems analysis, bid coordination, and new business development.

Autonomy & Decision-Making: Makes routine decisions, provides recommendations to supervisor, and refers exceptions to supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and actively participate in the company’s safety and quality plans, demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment.
  • Complete entry-level and routine mechanical, electrical, and field construction activities.
  • Develop budgetary M/E estimates using automated estimating systems based on program and schematic design information.
  • Assist in reviewing mechanical and electrical options during preconstruction and complete systems analysis for select projects.
  • Develop mechanical and electrical scopes of work for bid coordination.
  • Assist in bid analysis and subcontractor selection.
  • Develop sequencing requirements for systems to meet schedule needs.
  • Identify potential quality issues in design documents and assist in constructability reviews.
  • Perform job inspections to ensure specifications and quality standards are met.
  • Assist with the shop drawing/submittal process to comply with contract documents.
  • Support the commissioning process, including pre-functional checklists, functional testing procedures, and actual testing.
  • Complete increasingly complex mechanical, electrical, and field construction activities as a Senior M/E Engineer.
  • Review mechanical and electrical options, recommend optimal systems, and provide value engineering suggestions.
  • Coordinate mechanical and electrical scopes during the bid process.
  • Provide scheduling input and solutions to meet project timelines.
  • Develop quality control programs and perform job inspections at various project stages.
  • Develop and verify pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures.
  • Review and approve shop drawings before submission to the design team.
  • Generate and issue the Commissioning Plan for approval and verify deficiency corrections.
  • Mentor less experienced co-workers and create innovative M/E tools to improve processes.
  • Negotiate subcontracts and purchase equipment for assigned projects.
  • Serve as the direct client contact to build relationships.
  • Participate in business development, interviews, and presentations for winning work.
  • Represent JE Dunn at external community events.
  • Manage resource allocation, staffing, and reimbursability for assigned projects.
  • Lead and promote a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field (Required). Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of construction management experience (Preferred).
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.

Skills

  • Ability to read and understand plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Proficiency in JE Dunn construction M/E tools and software.
  • Knowledge of construction management fundamentals and project processes.
  • Ability to build relationships across project teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in required construction technology.
  • Intermediate proficiency in scheduling software and BIM (Building Information Modeling).
  • Advanced ability to apply Lean processes and philosophy.
  • Advanced ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability, and generate future work through relationships.
  • Intermediate knowledge of ASE and Lens.
  • Ability to construct a project from start to finish, prepare budgets, and complete range estimates.
  • Ability to assist with marketing presentations and activities.
  • Ability to manage a team and collaborate internally and externally.
