Senior Medical Science Liaison, Inborn Errors of Metabolism

Accountabilities

• Act as a trusted scientific resource, fostering high-quality engagement with healthcare providers, key opinion leaders, and research communities while supporting medical affairs strategies within the assigned region.
• Deliver fair, balanced scientific presentations and respond to unsolicited medical inquiries from healthcare professionals in academic, community, and clinical settings.
• Develop and execute regional engagement strategies with key opinion leaders and centers of excellence to support impactful scientific exchange.
• Gather, analyze, and communicate medical insights that inform scientific strategies, research priorities, and future development initiatives.
• Build strong relationships with external experts to understand perspectives on rare disease treatment approaches and identify opportunities for collaboration.
• Support clinical research activities, including investigator-initiated studies, collaborative research projects, and clinical trial site identification.
• Partner with clinical operations teams to help improve patient enrollment and engagement with ongoing clinical studies.
• Represent medical affairs in cross-functional projects and contribute expertise to internal initiatives.
• Participate in scientific conferences and medical meetings, providing post-event insights, competitive intelligence, and strategic recommendations.
• Maintain accurate documentation of activities, comply with internal policies, manage territory responsibilities, and complete required administrative tasks.
• Travel approximately 60% within the assigned region and nationally, including occasional overnight travel.

Requirements

• A strong scientific background, experience in medical affairs, and the ability to communicate complex clinical information effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• A terminal degree such as MD, PhD, or PharmD in a relevant clinical or medical discipline, with at least 2 years of prior Medical Science Liaison experience.
• Candidates with an advanced degree such as MS, MSN, or MPH and 5+ years of MSL experience in a related therapeutic area will also be considered.
• Strong scientific and clinical expertise, preferably within rare diseases or inborn errors of metabolism.
• Proven ability to present complex medical and scientific information in both virtual and in-person environments.
• Understanding of healthcare systems, patient care pathways, and regional medical practices.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to scientific exchange, product promotion, and healthcare professional engagement.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, build partnerships, and contribute to business and medical objectives.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and successfully oversee territory responsibilities.
• Strong organizational skills, accountability, and ability to consistently deliver results.
