Senior Medical (Science) Director - Immunology (Respiratory)

The Sr. Medical Science Director/Sr. Medical Director at Genentech centers patients and science in all actions, driving medical tactics to maximize progress for patients. This role maintains an in-depth understanding of medical strategy, clinical issues, and payer landscapes while ensuring partners grasp external healthcare trends. It upholds high standards of compliance, ethics, and safety within a network of experts, performing varied medical activities as needed.

This position supports in-line products and the launch of Roche/Genentech assets in Immunology and Respiratory, providing clinical and scientific leadership for medical affairs. The role generates and communicates medical evidence to aid practitioners, patients, and payers in healthcare decisions. The successful candidate will exhibit strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills, representing US Medical in cross-functional teams and external engagements.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and monitor medical strategies, plans, and tactics across the product lifecycle.
• Provide clinically meaningful perspectives for regulatory and scientific communications.
• Lead clinical study design and management.
• Engage scientifically with internal and external stakeholders, including congress planning and medical/scientific content communications.
• Implement strategy through medical tactics, leveraging network expertise and insights.
• Maintain an in-depth understanding of medical strategy, clinical issues, patient/caregiver needs, payer landscapes, and market dynamics.
• Uphold high standards of compliance, ethics, and safety, prioritizing patients in all actions.

Requirements

• Advanced clinical/science degree (e.g., PharmD, PhD, MD).
• Minimum 7+ years of relevant biopharmaceutical industry experience.
• Understanding of or experience with Phase I–III and/or Phase IV drug development.
• Experience across Medical Affairs domains, including data analysis, interpretation, medical writing, strategy development, and external engagement.
• Expertise in pre-approval drug development trials and/or post-marketing medical evidence generation, including controlled and observational study designs, data analysis, and clinical/health economic interpretations.
• Understanding of the US healthcare environment, including payer landscapes, marketplace dynamics, and evidence-based medicine.
• Proven ability to develop strong relationships with external stakeholders (e.g., therapeutic area experts, organizations).
• Strong teamwork, collaboration, interpersonal, and influencing skills; ability to establish rapport and influence without authority.

Preferred Qualifications

• Clinical and scientific experience in Immunology/Respiratory.
• Experience as part of a medical launch team.

Pay

The expected salary range for this position in South San Francisco, CA, is $198,600–$471,000. Actual pay will be determined by experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance.

Schedule

This position is based in South San Francisco and may require up to 35% travel time.
