Senior Medical School Adviser
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- A minimum of two (2) years of academic advising experience
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt to a changing and growing environment and to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
Desired Qualifications
- Three years of experience with counseling and advising in a medical school environment
Unless otherwise required by an applicable collective bargaining agreement, all minimum, additional and desired qualifications are preferred, but qualifications, degrees, and/or experience deemed comparable and/or equivalent by Oakland University in its sole and exclusive discretion may be considered.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Academic Success, the Senior Medical School Adviser will play a critical role in providing academic and career advising and other student support services, essential to a successful medical student experience. The Adviser will provide specialized academic support for students within the School of Medicine including, but not limited to, meeting with students and developing a course of action for optimal academic performance. The Adviser will contribute to the development and delivery of academic support workshops and USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK exam workshops. The individual will also advise first and second year medical students on the basics of career opportunities in medicine. The Adviser will meet with students to review their CVs and personal statements for internship and research application opportunities.
