Senior Medical Director
About the role
The Senior Medical Director leads the agency team in understanding and applying scientific and clinical account data, requiring strong strategic instincts in healthcare and pharmaceutical marketing. This role involves preparing scientific and strategic analyses, conducting research, disseminating brand and category backgrounders, attending major medical meetings, and assisting with onboarding new team members.
The position demands clinical and technical knowledge of medicine across oncology-focused therapeutic areas, providing medical direction and reviewing work for scientific accuracy and strategic relevance. The Senior Medical Director will also develop relationships with client marketing, regulatory, medical, and clinical personnel, as well as key opinion leaders in oncology.
Responsibilities
- Organize and implement a system to store and access preclinical, clinical, and competitive scientific data across all agency brands.
- Prepare scientific and strategic analyses of data for use in promotional media; proactively assess emerging competitive and scientific trends.
- Collaborate with account, creative, strategy, and medical teams to analyze and interpret scientific data, ensuring clients achieve maximum marketing advantage.
- Develop and implement a system for gathering and disseminating market and clinical data to teams and clients (e.g., lunch-and-learns, monthly updates).
- Design and lead agency-wide scientific education courses, including curriculum development and content creation.
- Liaise with client marketing, medical, and regulatory departments; build relationships with client physicians and key opinion leaders.
- Facilitate collaboration between client marketing and clinical operations to offer proactive solutions for brand promotions.
- Attend and coordinate preparation of reports for major medical meetings.
- Provide scientific perspective in client meetings and assist with annual strategic and tactical planning.
- Organize a database of key opinion leader contacts; conduct advisory boards and develop medical content (e.g., discussion guides for focus groups and interviews).
- Lead scientific portions of new business presentations, showcasing the agency’s expertise to prospective clients.
- Travel to client sites in person as required.
Requirements
- PharmD, MD, PhD, or related field with 2+ years of applicable experience.
- MBA or experience in business/marketing preferred.
- 4+ years of clinical experience as a medical practitioner or relevant oncology work, including genitourinary cancers such as prostate cancer.
- Knowledge of preclinical and clinical research methods and drug approval processes.
- High degree of independence and strong strategic instincts in healthcare and pharmaceutical marketing.
Pay
$125,000 – $162,500 per year.
Schedule
Minimum of three days per week in-office, with potential for increased in-office requirements over time.
