About the role
The power generation market is growing and evolving, driven by strong capacity demand signals. HDR's national Power Generation team is poised for significant growth and is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the development, contracting, and implementation of natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead the project mechanical team
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines
- Monitor and communicate project status
- Provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level
- Develop construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates
- Design and specify power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects
- Collaborate with engineers and designers from several other disciplines
- Handle multiple concurrent assignments
- Mentor less experienced engineers and EITs
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design
- Significant experience with utility-scale power generation systems and equipment
- Proven ability to plan, schedule, and lead design projects
- Experience with gas turbine, steam turbine, and/or large reciprocating engine systems
- Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects
- Able to handle multiple concurrent assignments
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Ability to work within an established schedule and budget
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation
- Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects
- Able to handle multiple concurrent assignments
- Strong ability to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs

Pay
The expected compensation range for this position depends on skills, experience, education, and geographical location. The targeted salary range for this position (based on experience and location) is $108,661 - $204,250.
