About the role

The Opportunity: In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead the design of HVAC and plumbing systems for complex, mission-critical data center facilities, including hyperscale and colocation environments. You will work on technically demanding projects that require high reliability, energy and water efficiency, and coordination across multiple disciplines. This position offers opportunities for technical leadership, mentorship, and continued growth while supporting large-scale infrastructure projects across Black & Veatch’s global portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and construction activities, including project delivery methods such as traditional Design-Bid-Build and Alternative Conceptual-Bid-Build
  • Design HVAC and plumbing systems for primarily HyperScale and Colocation Data Center design associated with administrative and support spaces
  • Support additional areas such as Administrative, Warehouse, Maintenance, Workshop, Laboratory, Chemical Storage & Handling, Electrical Distribution Center, Low & Medium Voltage Switchgear, Pump Areas, Engine Generator, Blowers/Air Compressors, and Flammable & Combustible Liquids Storage.
  • Lead Data Center airflow CFD modeling studies for interior and exterior spaces
  • Conduct energy audit/efficiency studies, code review/application, and sustainable design/LEED application of sustainable strategies
  • Develop engineering skills while working on challenging projects

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
  • Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Previous experience in Data Center/Mission Critical Design
  • Experience with construction support
  • Understanding of design differences in Hyper-scale, edge and colocation data centers.
  • Familiarity with Data Center tier rating systems
  • Strong knowledge in Autodesk Revit
  • Data Center airflow CFD modeling experience for internal and external evaluations
  • Computer generated HVAC cooling and heating loads and HVAC equipment sizing
  • HVAC system energy modeling and energy code
  • Green building initiatives such as LEED
  • Technical submittal reviewing process and bid reviewing process for large-scale water and air cooled chiller plants
  • International Codes Council (ICC) Suite of Codes, ASHRAE Handbooks/Standards, ASPE design handbooks, and SMACNA Standards
  • NFPA Standards
  • Attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
