About the Role
QinetiQ US is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and maintenance of military and commercial hardware products. These include ruggedized military electronic equipment for maritime applications, robotic ground vehicles, vehicle autonomy hardware, and ground robots. As a technical lead, you will evaluate design changes, perform analysis, plan and oversee design tasks, and review/approve design documentation at our Franklin, MA facility.
Responsibilities
- Provide “hands-on” support for mechanical design and product issues related to various DOD pre-production and production programs.
- Design, layout, and model electromechanical assemblies, robotic systems, and assorted military hardware.
- Participate in the formal Engineering Change process, including:
- Creating/updating designs and drawings for production.
- Performing checking and approval.
- Design hardware products using 3D CAD modeling tools.
- Oversee and task other engineers on project designs.
- Perform system-level tolerance analysis.
- Provide disposition instructions and justification for non-conforming material.
- Facilitate review meetings and present at all levels of formal design review meetings.
- Interface with vendors to identify sources of supply for critical fabrication items.
- Engage with customers on a project engineering level.
- Participate in cost estimation for development programs.
- Provide direction and guidance to other engineers and design staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
- 5–12 years of experience in mechanical design across all aspects of a product lifecycle.
- Experience in all phases of design/development (concept to production).
- Experience processing Engineering Changes to documentation on DOD programs.
- Proficiency in metal fabrication design, electromechanical hardware design, and manufacturing techniques.
- Experience creating and working with formal design/development processes, with an emphasis on transitioning projects from prototype to production.
- Proficiency in 3-D Solid Modeling software (PTC CREO and/or Solidworks).
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for producing precision technical plans, drawings, and models.
- Experience with detailed drawing creation and geometric tolerancing (ASME Y14.5).
- Direct technical lead experience managing design tasks.
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to obtain a DOD Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Model Based Definition.
- Experience designing hardware for DoD Maritime programs.
Pay
The salary range for this role is $100,000–$130,000 USD. The range provided is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. QinetiQ US considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
