About the role

We are seeking a senior-level mechanical engineer for a leading role in our Fort Worth, Denver, Cary, or Austin office. This position will provide an opportunity to mentor and/or manage junior and mid-level mechanical engineering staff while working closely with clients to deliver exceptional services in the energy sector. Responsibilities include strategy formation, business development, and sales as we expand our energy transition portfolio.

At Jacobs, our projects offer a true "end-to-end" lifecycle service—from exploration and development to operation, repowering, and retirement. You will lead a mechanical engineering team to provide advisory services and engineering design solutions across all market sectors, collaborating with Client Account Managers and sales professionals on strategic pursuits.

This is a hybrid work-from-home position, requiring regular work from our local Jacobs office or client site office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a mechanical engineering team to deliver advisory services and engineering design solutions for clients.
  • Mentor and manage junior and mid-level mechanical engineering staff.
  • Collaborate with clients to assess energy needs, develop concept-level plans, and execute detailed designs.
  • Engage in business growth strategy, including exploring and developing new project opportunities and applying emerging technologies.
  • Support proposal development and project execution planning, including scope development and man-hour estimates.
  • Work with Client Account Managers and sales professionals on strategic pursuits.
  • Anticipate challenges and manage "up and out" while supporting large teams responsible for project delivery.
  • Travel as required to support project needs (typically less than 50%).
  • Work at least 2 days per week in the Cary, NC office when not traveling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of engineering design and/or consulting experience.
  • Professional Engineering licensure (any U.S. state).
  • Proven ability to engage with clients, develop relationships, win work, and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Experience with proposal development and project execution planning.
  • Strong communication, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for mentoring and developing junior technical staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with thermal utility plants and distribution systems (steam, hot water, chilled water).
  • Utility master planning or decarbonization/climate response planning.
  • Cogeneration or combined heat and power systems.
  • Heat pump/heat recovery chillers.
  • Prior personnel management responsibilities.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $116,400.00 to $170,000.00. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
