Senior Mechanical Engineer

CCI Facility Support Services, LLC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide on-site construction oversight at MIT/LL in Lexington, MA. This role operates as a contractor under the periodic review of the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and serves as a technical liaison between stakeholders, Government, and USACE personnel.

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will ensure contractor activities, materials, and workmanship comply with project plans, specifications, and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include managing quality assurance documentation, reviewing contractor submittals, evaluating proposed contract changes, and troubleshooting complex civil, electrical, and mechanical systems during building commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Review project activities and monitor progress in the field.
• Interpret plans, specifications, and statements of work to resolve unanticipated problems during project execution.
• Track contractual milestones and reporting requirements to ensure project conformance.
• Review and advise the COR on mechanical equipment installation, design concepts, commissioning, and controls.
• Assist the COR with determining project changes, preparing cost estimates, negotiating with contractors, and preparing contract documentation.
• Review contractor submittals, including work plans, quality control and test plans, technical submittals, and progress reports, ensuring compliance with contract and regulatory requirements.
• Review contractor Health and Safety Plans and/or Accident Prevention Plans for compliance with USACE Engineers Safety Program.
• Review contractor Quality Control Plan for compliance with USACE Quality Control Program.
• Review proposed changes and revisions to project submittals and provide comments.
• Utilize USACE Resident Management System (RMS) software.
• Serve as the focal point for mechanical issues, investigation, and resolution across multiple projects.
• Assist in training USACE personnel in areas of expertise.
• Coordinate with subject matter experts when necessary.

Requirements

• Experience, formal education, and training in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years managing commercial, institutional, or industrial building construction.
• Specific knowledge of mechanical engineering principles related to design, construction, and management of buildings, including operations, safety, quality control, scheduling, and costs.
• U.S. citizenship (required for access to military jobsite).
• Experience providing regulatory support and knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements for new construction and remediation projects.
• Ability to communicate, monitor, and coordinate multiple regulatory requirements and milestones with USACE and other stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of mechanical and general engineering concepts, principles, and practices.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to review and provide comments on contractor submittals, including work plans, quality control and testing plans, health and safety plans, project schedules, warranties, operations and maintenance manuals, and mechanical technical submittals.
• Diplomatic skills to handle competing agendas.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and ability to learn government-specific software (e.g., Resident Management System (RMS)).
• Ability to provide in-depth mechanical systems knowledge for start-up, testing, and commissioning procedures.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical system problems alongside contractors to identify causes and recommend corrective actions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with federal Government military construction.

Physical Requirements

• Must maintain a constant state of mental alertness.
• Ability to bend, stoop, sit, walk, or stand for prolonged periods; primarily sedentary with frequent opportunities to move.
• Regularly required to hear, talk, sit, and use hands/fingers for keyboard and phone operation.
• Occasionally required to reach with hands/arms and lift, handle, or move objects up to 40 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities include close, distance, and peripheral vision, with the ability to adjust focus.

Pay

Base Salary Range: $135,000 – $175,000 per year.
